Some of these rankings are head scratchers. Conley is top 40 as well.

Looks like Davis will be ranked somewhere between 31-33. He's on today's advertisement for the 31-40 block of players.
I thought he would have been top 30, maybe 25 but I guess he's still flying under the radar.
ETA: Yea, Davis comes in at 33. What a joke, he's below Lillard and Conley.

he's very good but i don't know that he gets too much better than he already is. a few years of experience will help him learn the game better and manage within games better, but his skill is probably going to peak and plateau pretty soon. just my take on it. but he did have a very, very good rookie year. and i would expect him to be a top 10 PG pretty soon for years to come.

According to this espn ranking, it looks like they already have him as a top 10 PG, which is crazy when you take into consideration how deep the PG talent pool is.

Mike Conley??
Easily top 40. He and Gasol are far and away our best players.

Mike Conley is a top 10 PG?

Absolutely. Conley is an old school PG, he's not putting up absurd numbers offensively, but he makes the team run and boasts a pretty substantial PER.
1st Team All-Defense too.

in no particular order, i think these guys are agreed upon:
Paul
Parker
Rondo
Westbrook
Rose (healthy)
as that top tier
then you have guys like Wall, Irving, Williams, maybe Curry as the next group. After that, there's a TON of dudes who could round out the top 10. Conley, Lillard, Lawson, maybe Lowry, maybe Walker, maybe Holiday. So it's not insane. But I don't think I'd put him top 10 yet. Maybe top 12.

His advanced stats took a pretty big jump last year. He had an 18.3 PER and he was ranked 29th in the entire league for Win Share per 48 minutes. I'm not sure where exactly I'd rank Conley amongst PGs, but people went from wondering why Memphis gave him so much money to thinking he's on a halfway decent deal.

From Chad Ford fwiw:

If Davis keeps playing like he's played this preseason, he's 20 spots too low RT @ESPNNBA: #NBArank 33: Anthony Davis

I think he's good, but IMO he isn't above:
(in no order)
Paul, Rondo, Westbrook, Parker, Rose, Wall, Curry, Irving, Williams
I guess he could be in the mix for the 10 spot with Lawson, Holiday, and Lillard

Conley came in at 32 overall. Interested to see where Gasol falls. My guess is in the 10-20 pod.

Michael Pellissier with a follow up article on NBA Rank and how the Pelicans project:

Trend 1: Having a top 10 player
Success rate: 85.7%
Trend 2: Having 2 players in the top 50 (thanks, MazonMafia)
Success rate: 87.5%
Trend 3: Having 3 players in the top 50
Success rate: 100%
Trend 4: Having 4 players in the top 100
Success rate: 90%
...Trend 1: Having a top 10 player
Result: Failure
Trend 2: Having 2 players in the top 50
Result: Success (Anthony Davis, Jrue Holiday)
Trend 3: Having 3 players in the top 50
Result: Failure (Ryno fell short by a few spots)
Trend 4: Having 4 players in the top 100
Result: Success (Anthony Davis, Jrue Holiday, Ryan Anderson, Eric Gordon, Tyreke Evans made the cut, which means that the Pelicans had one more than the benchmark of 4).
...The 12-13 Denver Nuggets, however, seem to be a decent comparison for what this Pelicans squad could be. The team featured many very good, borderline All-Stars, but no established superstar. Denver’s roster from last year was full of athletic, fast players, and its depth + athleticism but lack of superstar made it a perfect candidate for the “we’re built for the regular season but probably won’t go far in the playoffs” club.. and that’s exactly what happened. The Nuggets finished 3rd in the conference with 57 wins, which was 1 more than the Clippers and Grizzlies managed.
The difference between this year’s Western Conference and last year’s starts at the top. The Clippers and the Rockets appear to have improved, and in reality, the top 5-6 spots in the conference look pretty set. The Pelicans’ goal is clear: they want to make the playoffs. The preseason results have brought optimism, and Anthony Davis’s play is stirring up excitement. The trends from last year say the Pelicans can make it and NBA Rank says the talent is there.. what do you think?

the past 3 years...if rondo had conley's roster, and conley had rondo's roster, you wouldn't think that.
irving and curry don't play defense. conley plays amazing defense. irving and curry are better on offense. it's a lot closer, in terms of overall game, than most people realize.
paul, westbrook, rose, and parker are clearly the top tier. after that it gets muddy
Posted on 10/15/13 at 12:23 pm to SlowFlowPro
Irving and Curry are a lot better than Conley offensively. Conley is not a game changer, and regardless of his defense, doesn't affect games like Irving and Curry can.
