Found this morning in the pool skimmer at my parent's home in NorthEast Louisiana.
What type of snake do y'all think it is?
Mom said to kill it, but Dad let it live.

I think it's a Dekay (Brown) snake--Storiea Dekayi. My resident snake freak isn't home right now to confirm. Harmless.

About how quick did you turn loose of that skimmer basket?
I reached in to clear some pine straw and some of the "straw" started wiggling.

It was my Dad who found it.
He ain't scared of no snake.

I've got a long-haired Dachshund that doesn't tolerate a snake.
Me and the big dog hide behind the house.

Must not be natives. That fricker would be dead if ya'll were natives. Especially one all coiled up like that.

We are originally from Tensas Parish.
My Dad lets the good guys go. If it were up to my Mom, she would want them all killed.

Anyone know if baby poisonous snakes show a diamond head or does that happen as they mature? Wife came across a 6-8" brown banded snake in the flower bead over the weekend. Non aggressive and not a diamond head. I tried to capture it but he slipped under a shrub and mulch and disappeared...

nope. babies prettymuch look like adults in shape, but colors shift for some, and that sounds like a ribbon snake to me
eyes are the best way to judge if a snake is poisonous, cat eyes are bad, round pupils are good (in this part of the world)

Just going by the picture, that's one of those not-dead-enough snakes.

Got to worry about those Tensas Parish folks. Almost as bad as Concordia Parish peeps.

I've seen a lot of snakes before, but that's a new one on me.
