I think people feel it has to be a weakness because so much talent left from that side of the ball for the NFL even if the unit is still strong. I feel the offense looking much stronger than in the past has made people more critical of the defensive side of the ball also.

The defense has looked fine. If the unit is getting this scrutinized what does that say about the UGA and A&M defenses? What about the Bama offense? I think it is getting exaggerated and they will be a strong unit all year.

Maybe not as good (yet) as the last couple of years, but I don't know of anyone who is saying it's bad.

not bad, just doesn't have the impact players we have seen in the past. Doesn't have those game changer types, but we do have a collection of good solid types that you can still win a championship with. The closest we have to big time players, and who are on the verge, at this time seem to be Jordan Allen, Freak, and Kwon. Then we have some young guys on the bench, waiting for their chance, who could be those types, in Tre White, Robinson, and Rickey Jefferson, and also Beckwith.

Bad tackling angles in secondary. Past few years it was one of our strengths. Now, not so much. I'm sure they will figure it out though.

Not bad, but certainly not what we're used to seeing. Dont live in denail, these guys need experience.

our run defense is suspect. i guess it's inexperience. we had some problems last year also. too many juniors left early for this to a dominating D, esp this early in the season. we aren't ut bad, but a dominate running team is going to expose us, imo.

even if we just got more size and speed at MLB even if he doesn't fully know the plays or technique yet would help fix one problem of many we have on D. Even in the secondary, what we lose in technique and experience can often be made up for with speed, athleticism, and attitude. The skills and experience will eventually get there. Just need some minor personnel tweaks.

The only positions on D I would be concerned with is LB & who are your top three corners.

Playing a lot of younger players on defense

It'll get sorted out here soon enough IMO

I am cautiously optimistic that it will improve, but I don't see it becoming as dominant as the last 2 years.

But so far it looks that the drop off is offset by better offense, so across the board, as a team, things look good.

Our DE are either out of position or they are much slower than what we are used to seeing out of our ends.

They are out of position. Allen appears to be playing it right most if not all of the time, but the strong-side is still struggling to play contain correctly. This is expected and it will be corrected.

not bad, but definitely there is work in progress..
Linebackers, Secondary and DE..in that order..
Let's see where we are by the time Auburn has come and gone..
the first game against TCU showed some work to be done, but in fairness, it is hard for the D to gel after having lost so many.
practice does not equal game speed.

time will tell

Chicageaux, will you be doing any more of your "work"? It is awesome and entertaining. Please consider.

What the frick is going on with all this bad angles crap? All of a sudden, in the middle of last year, "bad angles" became the new "good hips". It's just something heard that sounds football savvy. It's not!

I will say, that it has been used on this board in excess recently, but only because it vitally true. Football is almost all geometry when open field tackling. So to say that it is merely a "saying" is naive.
