It isn't saying that the Southshore doesn't have these types events
They do they are just in Metairie at Lafreniere park and Kenner at the Lake.

Nothing like walking out the door to go home and the bridge is closed.
How long does it stay closed and how often does it close...maybe 6-10 times a year? Alot of the times it closes it closes at times outside of mine and their commute.
Everywhere has wrecks, but the reason it closes is because they can get the cleanup crews there fast and get it out of the way, and they do. An accident usually clears on the Causweay in about 15 minutes.
Weather closures happen, but it isn't often and when the weather is that bad, everyones commute is slowed down.

So 6-8 times a year is "frequently" now?

Being close to the heart of Metairie (coming from Mandeville, Covington, parts of Lacombe, Madisonville) or NO east (Slidell, parts of Lacombe, Pearl River) isn't that NOLA East or Metairie is the destination, just an example that once you are there, you are pretty close to wherever you want/need to go.
That seems sort of silly when you think about it

Please do explain how those who live on the Northshore cannot experience the culture that is offered in New Orleans?
You can experience it. You just aren't immersed in it.

How long would it take to get to Twin Peaks from the NS ? We all know they will never allow a Twin Peaks on the NS.

What income does it take a year to raise a family with two kids, be in an area where they are safe to play outside, be within minutes of parks/recreation, etc. and send them to good
schools?
$400k/ year???
Convenience is sacrificed for the other benefits and much more accessible for around $200K.
I hear what you're saying. My point was I'd either 1) pay double to live uptown, or 2) pay 200k to live on the NS rather than 200k to live in the far parts of Metairie or Kenner.

I'm 5-10 min tops from uptown or downtown in Old Gretna. All I have to do is hop on the expressway and cross the bridge.
The northshore is nicer but I prefer being closer to the city and the events. Some of my family live on the northshore now and we hardly see them because of the causeway and the drive.
Kind of a silly discussion anyway. People value different things.

However, I hate the whole "family oriented" narrative to describe anything that's NOT New Orleans.
I think for most people it comes down to money
You have to spend a King's Ransom to send your kid to a school that isn't completely terrible in New Orleans.
What public schools would you feel comfortable sending your kids to in the area? Other than maybe a couple of magnet schools they're all pieces of shite.

I'm not saying the southshore doesn't have those types of events, they do. But like you, living in the point, you have one of those types of events nearby. Those living in Kenner and Metairie, they may have one. In Mandeville, they are abundant. The same way events like Wednesdays at the Square are abundant to those in the CBD, Uptown, garden District, etc.
And, if you living in the point, or someone living in Kenner or Metairie and I all have to drive to Wenesday's at the Square/Saints Games/Jazz Fest, I prefer to live where there is more of an abundance of those family oriented events.

Slidell has a Hooters bruh...debatable of where it's closer than the one in Metairie or not.

Can we move this thread back to titties and beer?
Posted on 9/11/13 at 10:14 am to LSUfan4444
Lets keep Slidell out of this, it doesn't offer the safety and family environment that other part of the NS.

I agree with you, NOLA isn't for everybody.

We mostly agree....except me paying double for everything just so I can be "immersed" in the New Orleans culture rather than experience the parts that I want isn't an option I would consider.
I did it when I was single...I lived in Algiers Point and did the ferry thing. I lived uptown and did the street car thing....I'm just not single anymore and have different priorities.

That's certainly a big part of it. For me to live where I would want to live in New Orleans, we'd have to jump to probably a mill a year combined.

I must have gone to Salem during the glory years. We had a great run of sports team in the early 90's. I'd say our two main rivals were Atonement and Concordia.

Back on point, I stopped at (gulp) Walk On's for a quick salad at the bar on my way back to the office. The girls behind the bar were telling me that the outfits at Twin Peaks were pretty skimpy and trashy.
Maybe they'll open one Uptown!!!
