Man of Steel - upon further review...

I for one LOVED MOS. It was what a Superman movie should be in this day and age. That said, and while I do understand some of the picking of nits (length of final battle with Zod, Lois' incredible ability to be wherever Kal-El was, regardless of distance), I remain baffled at the low rating for this movie on RT. However, this puts the whole thing in perspective and shows why MOS' RT rating is complete bullshite.

With the exception of Star Wars: Attack of the Clones, all of those films are better than Man of Steel.

Ya, those are some terrible movies.
But I dug Revenge of the Sith.

Because it just wasn't very good. Entertaining, sure...but very disappointing.

Yeah the action at the end was WAY to over the top.

I also don't see how 56% on RT is that surprising. So roughly 6/10 critics liked/would recommend MOS. That seems about right to me.

Action is great, but when there is little to nothing at stake, it becomes meaningless. two seemingly invincible characters throwing each other from building to building for 30 minutes gets old fast.

I just couldn't get over that Lois Lane knows that Clark kent is superman. I mean that's some basic shite right there. Removing that storyline was just about a deal killer for me.

and theres nothing wrong with that. film snobs need to mind their own business, like what they like, and not make fun of people who like things they dont.

Critics don't know anything even though they have probably seen 100x more movies than you and have actual educational experience in critical analysis. But keep fighting the good fight, brother.

I don't think many people thought it was a bad movie. It just wasn't nearly as satisfying as the Superman fanboys hoped it would be.

This is one movie where the critics knew that Man of Steel was going to be quite different from the Donner universe but still couldn't quite handle the departure from the Donner films into something so completely different that MoS was. The critics were expecting something at least similar to the Donner films and Snyder/Nolan never intended to give them that. Hence the low rating.
Part of the reason why Man of Steel was like this is they listened to the fanboys who drive the comic book genre who supremely hated Superman Returns and acted accordingly by realizing that a different, new and fresh take on Supes was in order. Without fanboys, the comic book genre wouldn't exist or just be barely on life support.

There were a ton of things that just pissed me off about it. I went off pretty hard on it in the MoS Discussion thread: About halfway down. I do plan to rewatch it when it comes out and hopefully I'll ease up on it a little bit, but I remember just being mad/disappointed when I left the theater. And I'm normally extraordinarily easy to please when it comes to movies, and I was looking forward to MoS a good bit.

I went in prepared to be unimpressed due to the reviews, but I really liked the film a lot
fantastic score and great acting. Pretty much every scene with Kevin Costner is a tear jerker

The problem with MoS is that TDK series came out first. With Nolan's name on it, it just couldn't live up to TDK's success.

It wasn't that different of a take. It was still cheesy and he was still a boy scout. The only difference was he killed Zod but that really wasn't that shocking, you could see it coming.

I dug MOS. I definitely preferred it to all the movies listed in the article.
At least critics liked it better than Ghostbusters 2

Actually this is the biggest change and the backbone of the departure from the donner universe. There's a lot of controversy around this and It's the biggest factor why the critics gave this a low rating. Superman doesn't kill, he finds every possible way he can to save the lives of everybody, good or evil. It finalized the notion that this is a different Superman.
