Not to mention that simply being on campus at LSU is the most bliss a human can hope to attain. To voluntarily spend your college days on another campus may qualify you as having a mental disorder.

At first I was with you, now I think the author just did a shitty job of conveying his message.
quote:
There’s little doubt that Hill, senior Alfred Blue and junior Kenny Hilliard will see carries this fall. Magee only has six in his career, and the number might not grow much.
In reality, attrition might be the best avenue for Magee, who rushed for 62 yards on seven carries in the second half the spring game.
“I’m very fortunate to have the opportunity to play this year,” Magee said. “I can’t take nothing away from those guys. ... I’ve got to keep working, taking my time and learn the new playbook.”
Until then, Magee engages in the nuances of pass protection, zone blocking and catching throws out of the backfield — an element that might give him a niche, given his stint at wide receiver.
I guess he means until those players move on, wasn't too obvious to me, either (if that's even the case)

well these guys are hired to write to communicate with an audience and if his message is lost by his readers that is the writers fault

Advocate writer advises LSU player to transfer in his notes column
I didn't take the writer's comment that way at all.
It sounded to me he was saying if one of the running backs ahead of him on the depth chart goes down for any reason, Magee would be the beneficiary of it happening.

Ya ya ya...LSU.
If the kid wants to play now, he may as well transfer. Catching a 4 yd pass and two garbage carries every 3 games isn't much.

If you came to the conclusion that the writer is telling him to transfer. Then you could also come to the conclusion that the writer is telling him to quit football, become an academic casualty, or be dismissed from the team for something. All of those are forms of attrition too.

That's reasonable. And as someone else said, if there is this much debate over what he meant with the comments, he's not doing a very good job.
This isn't a novel or a movie where everyone ascribes their own meaning. He's supposed to be reporting on LSU, there should be no ambiguity in his statements.
I'll admit, his past trolling columns definitely colored the way I read the comments.

The writer is not suggesting McGee transfer. The entire article is about the return of Hill, the running backs ahead of McGee and how McGee's playing time will be affected by his place on the depth chart.
Nowhere in the article is there even a suggestion of transfer.

I would take the people that disagree with me more seriously if any of them could actually spell the players name correctly.

Why is that relevant to the thread? Or is that just your way of deflecting attention from your shortcomings in reading comprehension?
Deflection, the last refuge of a foolish man.

Stevan Ridley should be an example. He waited his time, shined at LSU in 2010, and is now the starting running back for the New England Patriots.

Well, we're discussing Magee, I'd say knowing how to spell the primary subject of the thread is pretty important.

I'm not deflecting shite. I've my thoughts on the article and I stand by them. The guy who wrote the piece is a dickbag that said that a current LSU player would be better off leaving the team.
I don't care if you can't see it. But if you're going to try to argue your point, maybe brush up on the details first.

Wit. You lack it.

Not really. The discussion centered around the writer's intent and not a player. The player and his name are irrelevant to the discussion.

The writer may not have been suggesting a transfer, but at best he just has a poor understanding of how to use the terms attrition and avenue.
Couldn't he have just said "Magee may have to wait his turn"? To me using "avenue" means some action he himself would have to take.

I'm not going to get into a thing over this article because its not worth the effort but the sentence, as written, does not advise Magee to transfer.
A player cannot "attrition" himself as the sentence would have to suggest in order to follow the OP's position.
Logic dictates if the writer wanted to suggest transfer as magee's best option he would have used the word transfer.

This is the dumbest position to suggest a transfer right now. The guy knows nothing about the team. With Hill going to be suspended for a while we'll have three true RBs in Blue, Hilliard and Magee. Magee will get plenty of of looks in that time. Even when Hill comes back we've proven to use a 4th and even 5th RB. He's only a sophomore and we'll lose Blue, Hill and maybe even Hilliard after this season...leaving him as being the only returning RB with experience.
