Well, that article was....interesting
Very interesting. It did a nice job cherry picking data though. There will be a lot of silly articles for another 2 years about which one will "win" or is "winning".
and whatever point he had about the incumbent being hard to "dethrone" is stupid. Look at the awful Wii U sale to know that it isn't tough to up and down.

Let's be honest here...PC has the best exclusives out of any platform.

Completely opposite for me. It depends on what kind of games you like.
Good point. I should say ps3 had the best exclusives for me

Sony shares plummet as board rejects Loeb's plan
Still wonder if Playstation will be owned by Sony for this gens whole lifecycle. This decision shows that Sony is still willing to rip off it's only profitable division to finance it's multiple failures. 5 years of no profits (their profit last year was because they were FORCED to sell some real estate to make up for some losses. You know you are in trouble when you have to sell your American headquarters then turn around and rent space) and massive losses makes you wonder how much longer that can go on for.
I see an asset sell in Sony's future unless they can somehow right the ship.

Does a more powerful game console lead to better games? Even though the PS3 has more internal horsepower, this isn't translating into a better gaming experience -- at least one that shows in the sales charts.

so game sales correlate to graphics. okay

I'm not on either side of this debate, but this article is juvenile.

You keep saying this and it still remains so far from reality.

and they profited this quarter too.

They made money as a whole now that the exchange rates are evening out, so they don't lose as much on their exports. Since you seem pretty interested in their financials.
Relative to gaming, you only need to look at how little they're losing on PS4's R&D versus how much they lost on PS3's R&D (it's about half). And ironically, they only lost money in their game division because the previously agreed to buy all parts in US dollars.

How so? Sony used to get by hardware wise because they are Sony and people bought off of names mostly. That has changed and Sony now gets it's arse kicked in divisions where they used to be champs. Samsung has killed them in TVs. No one buys their computers anymore because they can get the same specs for $200 less. Their cell phones...lol on that. I could go on all day about their crap hardware they charge more for that no one buys anymore. A few patents and their entertainment division is the only thing keeping them going.
5 years of losses on their hardware side shows that I am correct and also shows that Sony has no plans to right that ship.
Their entertainment division carries them which is why Loed wants it split off because he knows Sony uses it to prop up the rest of their company. Sony knows he would move his over a billion dollars worth of holding into that division if a spin off were to happen as would every other large share holder which would cripple them and be the final nail in the coffin of their hardware division.

You are proving my point here. Consistent bad business decisions from them. Thanks for the help.

Eh, while they have had to change a lot of adapt to the market, their most recent phones have done very well. That's why their mobile division profited.

The restructuring and cost cutting surely shows nothing as well.

Are we looking at the same numbers? It seems like they got the most benefit from their financial services division which profited more than any other division. and you look at straight revenue, the mobile and camera division brought in the most there.

Decision was made before their new prime minister took office. His policy is to devalue the yen to help out big business export goods. LINK

I need to find the link but I read that's off of patents they hold. Not the actual hardware.

Only 2 of these franchises have titles announced for PS4. The announced XB1 exclusives are superior at the moment.
And mod nation racers? For real?

So we are not allowed to look at recent history as a possible gauge ?

Because no market analysis ever does this and it's not at all a good indicator of trends.

No really, and are you buying a console for 1-2 years? I don't think so.

Even with a slightly weaker launch lineup, the PS4 is still handily beating the XB1 on Amazon, both lately and overall.

I'm making a purchase based off known quantities like any informed customer should. I guess I should buy a console based off games that may not exist

Because Amazon sales should always be the deciding factor in what I buy amirite?
