True, but one was still in OT. You win that game in regulation, and erases almost any doubt who the better team was.

yeah it must really suck for that guy to get a NC two months later and nail his smokeshow gf on the reg.

probably so after thinking about it. completions were at such a premium in that game i guess i don't look at the JJ to RS play a botched opportunity. but i also didn't hate JJ with every fiber of my being so maybe that's why.

its pretty simple, we won our play off game, osu won their playoff game, bama list theirs and was sitting at home. we wouldnt have gotten in with a loss to bama. in fact i still dont think we get in with a loss to uga. The humans would have voted bama and osu in.

no i specifically remember ESPN pre game stuff saying that a loss wouldn't have knocked LSU out because they were on the road. but it could hurt bama being at home.

What, you didn't like the way I phrased it?

quote:

even so, i don't think we make the NC if we lose. they (media/talking heads) would talk us out of the game no matter our case.

So despite the media/talking heads saying before the game that LSU would still be okay if they lost, they would have changed their minds if LSU had lost?

The media wanted a rematch before the game was even played. I don't know why, but they did. If LSU had lost 9-6 in over time on the road to the #2 team in the country, there's no logical reason to think the narrative would change.

This really wasn't a slight on JJ, but had Shep not had to come back and fall down to make the catch he had a clear path to the end zone.

FWIW AJ missed a wide open Richardson on a wheel route that would have been a TD. Which may have been in OT.

This is why you really can't "what if" football games too much bc each team has missed opportunities.

my statements may seem inconsistent but i promise you its intentional. bc the media would've been insconsistent.

so let me answer your question clearly: ABSOLUTELY they would have!

well, technically, they didn't. there was no Big 12 CG that yr because of the teams that left. they just won the conference outright based on reg season record.

Yeah, I don't deal with absolutes in hypothetical situations.

But I also don't believe that everyone hates LSU.

well the media certainly took liberties with perception that year, so it wouldn't have been a big jump to consider playing OU their ranked rival as a playoff game.

but then again i guess it was.

Well, the season wasn't over, so yeah, they probably would have changed their minds.

They said a home loss would hurt Bama and it didn't, so why do you take what they said as fact??

Hell, we WON and the media wasn't impressed. Bama didn't even drop a spot in the polls and all we heard about was how Bama outgained us, the punt hit the wire, Bama's FG kicker lost the game blah blah blah.

Zero percent chance we get over OSU if the game played out the same with Bama winning in OT.

The media saw it as our O not being able to attack Bama's D, and Bama missing several FG opportunities that, if made, would have given Bama a comfortable win.

Even the media is right sometimes I suppose

Ended on a down note, obviously. But still my favorite season. 13-0 SEC Champs beating Big East and Pac champs and EVENTUAL NATIONAL CHAMPS away from home and blowout win in SECCG.

FIFY. And agree..
As an LSU fan I know and remember all of the amazing things that were accomplished that season.
Unfortunately I think the national impression is LSU got destroyed by bama after a pretty good season.
Wonder if that plays into a recruit's thought process at all or if there is any residual "voodoo" on the team.
That wouldn't be there otherwise.

But, yes, an incredible season!
Certainly want that win this year!
Wonder if they'll print shirts that say...
"4 years = 3 national championships and 3 losses to LSU."

that's cool. i mean there are no absolutes, you're right. just my absolute opinion.

i don't think everyone hates LSU, i think we would've been treated exactly the same as OSU was.

no one would've uttered "eyeball test" for us. like i said before they would've used precedents set with OU in 03 and mich-ohio st in 06 on why we should'nt have been there. win your conference, the regular season matters, yada yada...and they would've been absolutely right.

Perhaps a loss to Oregon. Then we probably would have had a rematch with them in the title game.
