As monumentally unfair as it was. Saban lobbying for his team to be #2 on national TV (Gundy was not given same chance) swayed some of the BCS
"Human Poll Voters and Coaches" to put Alabama at #2.
EVEN THOUGH OSU was told if they beat the crap out of former #1 Oklahoma (which they did, only by FIVE TOUCHDOWNS), to win the Big 12 title, they would stand a good chance of jumping Bama.

Why? Because one of the factors in the BCS calcuations (SUPPOSEDLY!) is SOS and winning a conference title - """""""B O T H""""""" which Bama did not have the advantage in and trailed OSU badly in the BCS points - or """SHOULD"""
have, anyway.....

But what decided the fate of OSU and the entire end of the 2011 CFB season and who would play who in several bowl games - including the NCG, was simply a faction of BCS Human Poll Voters - coaches, former coaches, and some who - I don't know HOW IN THE HELL got the privilege to vote -
who decided that 12-1 Big 12 Champ Okla State was only the FIFTH OR SIXTH best team - even though the rest of the voters put OSU 2nd or 3rd (except Satan - he voted OSU FOURTH- hmmmmm.)
OSU was very close to being #2 BEFORE they slaughtered Oklahoma.

There were also some 'what-ifs' too:
Oklahoma State's FG was inches from being good against Iowa State in their OT loss on the road.

Claiborne, Shepard, and Ford came close to scoring TDs against Bama.

It is the biggest travesty in the history of the Milky Way Galaxy that 13-0 500-123 LSU was "rewarded" by a "do-over" against the Toothless MulliGump Teafagging Detergent Heads.

Would we have beaten OSU? Who knows? The point is that Alashama did not deserve to play for the NC.

Ended on a down note

With Les bashers, and JJ vs JLee controversy needing no additional fodder the way the game played out fuelled the negativity. Not to mention Bama and Saban in the equation.

still my favorite season. 13-0 SEC Champs beating Big East and Pac champs and #2 team in country away from home and blowout win in SECCG

Awesome season. soured only by people wallowing in misery.

Still looking for the poster LSU released about the regular season.

- the way team gelled after the pre-season fiasco
- pun returns!
- kick-off coverage
- long TDs
- honey badger
- DBU

It was a season full of highlights.

Here is a thought...
LSU barely loses to Arkansas, putting Arkansas at the higher rank, Thus by standard putting Arky in the SEC Championship game. They then lose to UGA.

LSU finishes with one loss, Bama with one loss, OSU with 1 loss and a conference championsip.

OSU vs LSU?

Uhhh, hell no.

Bama vs. OSU 100%

If LSU loses to Ark after the win at Bama that no one was impressed with and doesn't get to play UGA Bama is ahead of LSU by a landslide IMO.

Ultimately, winning that Bama game was fools gold, but we had no way of knowing it at the time. That said, I would never trade in a Bama win for a Bama loss. It's one of the few reasons they still fear us.

its pretty simple, we won our play off game, osu won their playoff game, bama list theirs and was sitting at home. we wouldnt have gotten in with a loss to bama. in fact i still dont think we get in with a loss to uga. The humans would have voted bama and osu in.

Bingo. Didn't someone post here that ESPN actually ran a segment with Saban stating that if LSU lost the SECCG, they didn't deserve the rematch with Bama?

Seems like I remember reading that thread and tiger fans were outraged at the audacity of it all.

2011 cemented CFB as the WWE of amateur athletics.

The national championship should match the two greatest teams in the country; the selection won't be 100% objective ever — even if we just let computers crunch numbers to determine the rankings. Computer programs are written by humans whom inherently have a bias.

Regarding Oklahoma State, they blew a 17 point lead to Iowa State which is completely inexcusable. View the results of their Texas A&M, Kansas State, and Stanford games then tell me with a straight face that Oklahoma State was the second or third best team in the country. The BCS has screwed over other teams well before LSU so don't act like the rematch was the greatest injustice ever. The BCS got it right.

That would have been truly unfair. Oklahoma State was not the second best team in the country as evidenced by the Texas A&M, Kansas State, Iowa State, and Stanford games.

Whipping Alabama's arse in New Orleans would have been the better result.

I, for one, still think it is the most remarkable season in my LSU watching history. Easily. Only one win decided by less than 13 points.

LSU averaged a 27 point margin of victory in SEC play that year.

I would like to think differently but that may NEVER happen again in our lifetime.

The same level of propaganda witnessed to put Alabama in that game would have been used against LSU, especially after the '07 selection.

Alabama with Saban is the most marketable team in college football.

When I watched all of the games play out that Saturday in overwhelming favor of OSU, yet ABC/ESPN ran full time tickers promoting Alabama, even on the main network game, I couldn't believe my eyes.

It went beyond lobbying. It was early CNN style stuff.

LSU and Alabama were above everyone else, so I'd agree. Other teams are on the rise, and the conference's strength is only getting deeper. It would have been great to see this team versus 2010 Auburn.

If JJ had not under thrown a wide open RS, he could have scored a TD. The game may have never gone to OT, and they probably don't have to play Bama again.

The dude from the JJ Lee thread swears this was a good throw

Yeah, I could see you screwed out of a bid.
I'm not well versed on how the computer rankings are determined, but LSU should have had a stronger strength of schedule ranking that Oklahoma State. Oklahoma State only had 2 good wins: Kansas State and Oklahoma. Upon further review, Kansas State won several close games, so they weren't elite; that leaves Oklahoma State with only one truly notable win while LSU would have had 3 (Oregon, West Virginia, and Arkansas). LSU's loss would have been better than Oklahoma State's loss. LSU's wins were greater than Oklahoma State's wins.

Oklahoma State got lucky against Stanford, a team that wasn't even the PAC 12 Champion. Arkansas, the 3rd in the West SEC team, "handled" Kansas State unlike Oklahoma State. I could go on and on. Oklahoma State did not deserved to be in the title game, but then that leaves Stanford and 2-loss Oregon under them. Stanford shouldn't have received a nod, and a 2-loss team wasn't playing for BCSNCG that year.

If you really want to make things interesting, what if Oregon had not lost to USC? Would they have gotten the nod over Alabama? Oregon's name >>> Oklahoma State's.

Statistically, the Big 12 was a stronger conference than the SEC. OSU was way, way more accomplished than Alabama. You Gumps cried your way into a rematch. Please go back to the SEC Rant.
