My best friend had a shotgun do the same to his hand but worse . He was getting out of the duck blind . Thankfully it didn't blow your brains out . I worked the ER for several years and have seen many accidents like yours and worse . One second can really screw the day up .

My uncle (90 years old) was hunting and it started to rain so he put his shotgun in his slicker.
He basically blew off his foot. He had to hike out to his truck and drive home (1992 per cell phone). They ended up amputating from just below the left knee.
