Knew you would never let that happen when first read. Wouldn't put it past 4LSU2 tho(knock on wood).

What did the Ortho hand surgeon say? I'm sure you will have to wait for the swelling to go down before he operates.

A friend of mine did the same thing about 3 years ago.... Went through his hand and hit his wife in the leg. He knows his way around guns really well to.... Just a freak accident

Shooting himself would be bad enough, but to discharge a firearm so that it hits not only himself but another person as well says that he doesn't know his way around guns. If you do then even if you have a freak accident no one should be hit because the gun should be pointed in a safe direction. Just my opinion.

Yeah I've seen the video of that cop before. Firing a gun in a classroom automatically disqualifies you from being an expert.

It's the kige emoticon. That's the second time it has done that today. I was saying I agree with your post. Even if you have a negligent discharge, it should discharge in a safe direction.

Thanks for the reminder. I never pull the trigger on anything I don't check twice. Even when I put a snap cap in, I talk it out, out loud, "I'm an adult, the magazine was empty, I put a snap cap in, I saw the red go into the chamber. I've removed the magazine and there is a snap cap at the top, as well."

In all other instances, I do the Nutnfancy thing and clear the weapon about 6 or 7 times, just to make myself feel good.

Another thing I do - I clear the weapon completely, and take it someplace else to clean it ensuring I've safely separated the weapon from ammunition. I also clear it 2 or 3 times again before field stripping. Once the weapon is cleaned, reassembled and ready to be loaded again, I return it to where the ammo is.

It may seem too much, but what happened here is one time too many, in my opinion.

There was a guy who hobbled into my old work with a bullet wound in his calf last year

He loaded his weapon in the parking lot and was stuffing in the holster in between his seat and console and discharged it

He was embarrassed as hell, and was in a lot of pain before the ambulance got there. Luckily he shot himself with a FMJ otherwise he might have done some serious damage

Bullet missed the bones of the lower leg. Clean hole through and through
