All These Super Hero Movies...

Does anyone else just not get it? I'm not saying they suck, or are bad, or you're lame if you like them or anything. I never really got into the whole super hero thing as a kid except for Batman, and I know next to nothing about most of these characters.
I know they're super popular and people love them, but is there anyone else here that just can't get into them?

I'm not saying they're good, either. They're just kinda popcorn flicks for the most part. Except when they're outright terrible and not even suitable as a popcorn flick.

I can watch the Transformer movies all day errday... And also I dig The Avengers and Iron Man.
Outside of that, it's all meh to me.

Also, can you guys recommend some that I could get into even if I don't care for them in general?

I dont get it either. I watched the Batman flicks and dug them. Last I watched other than that was Iron Man 1.
I'd prefer an Indie

Nolan's batman Triology.
TDKR is the best.

Ya gotta understand. Some of us waited like 40 years for the technical abilities of movie-makers and the public taste and demand in movies to get to the point where they could make quality movies out the comics we loved.
That's a lot of built in business from grown up fan boys. I'm sure the trend will run it's course and start fading to some extent.

I was pretty big into comic books as a kid, but the movies are different enough that you don't exactly need a background to "appreciate" them. Like someone else said, they're mostly just popcorn flics. The Watchmen might have been the exception.

superhero films are my favorite genre. my dream is to direct one, one day. they appeal to all of us . we can escape and pretend to be someone we're not and fight for justice and all that jazz

I agree, to a certain extent
but these movies will create a whole new generation of fans that never read the comics and grow up watching the movies...and the cycle will continue...reboots and whatnot
the only way I can see things dying off is when Hollywood reboots a franchise too soon....a la Spiderman

Hollywood's target audience is 8-17 year olds...has been this way for the past decade.
Used to be the opposite.

They are intended to give the audience a viceral outlet to overcome their own inherent powerlessness over their personal situation.

As someone who grew up a comic book nerd, I agree with this. The audience is much bigger than us now.
