Will getting my year old German shorthaired pointer neutered effect his hunting

I purchased a GSP yesterday who has been through his first round of obedience training. I want to get him neutered because his papers state I can not breed him. My question is will losing his boys effect his hunting/agility abilities. I know a couple of guys on here have bird dogs, any input would be greatly appreciated.

Nah. It may calm him down a bit, but it shouldn't affect his hunting.

I know one thing that he'll quit hunting.

I'd ask the vet. I really have no idea, but it seems like timing could play a role. My guess would be to let him get full grown first.

I got mine fixed and it didn't slow him down.

What age did you get him fixed?

I'm pretty sure there's a law against anyone breeding any dog.
But seriously, frick that. I don't see how someone can sell you a dog and tell you you can't breed it (to another dog).

Why get him neutered? If it isnt broke don't try to fix it.
I have nothing to back it up but I like the idea of getting a couple of years of hunting underneath his belt...

Unless they have a GPS implanted in his penis, how will they find out?

He can breed it but the puppies can't be registered...

Not going to happen. A GSP isnt some dumb little lap dog that can't handle they pee...

I had my female spayed at age 6 months. No side effects hunting - she has great feel for it but was gun shy. Now she is a great blood trailing dog but still gets after everything around the house and camp, just gun shy. Our male was clipped after 18 months, but he nature is super chill so he didn't change much. It takes alot for him to get going, he goes to the office every day (more of just a pet now). But, he never had it to begin with.

Exactly the reason why all chihuahuas, yorkies, mini-(Insert any dog name here), and all other dog's less than 6lbs should be shark bait. Frick a little dog with a little brain.
You know if you put a chihuahua on a 16/0 circle hook and sent him down to 300ft you'd catch a 100lb Warsaw.

My GSP is up there on the stupid level, but one thing for sure is he doenst ever consider going to the bathroom in the house. I'd say house training has been the one thing that is easy about a GSP pup.

They can if they make you sign a contract that states it. Most of the "high-end" show and working dogs have contracts that do state that. If you want breeding rights, you have to pay extra, and get a pup that they deem suitable to carry on the genes. Most will actually state that the dog must be spayed or neutered unless you did pay extra for breeding rights. I agreed to the same thing with my doberman. I was able to talk her out of making me neuter him though.
If you do neuter your dog, I'd wait until he was 2 years old.

Agreed. My GSP has not been snipped and I don't have an issue with him peeing in the house. Since training he's been good. Marking everything and anything outside is his sole mission in life though. He's even pissed on me on accident.
Fortunately for him I was at a soccer field so I couldn't wail on him without looking like a cruel human being.
