Sequel comes way too late but it still has potential for greatness.

Maybe they can combine this movie with Prometheus 2.

Yessir, but

Then why bother?

Hollywood is pissing me off. Why make a "sequel" if it has no real connection to the original source material?

Sure, lets make a ninja turtles movie that has nothing to do with the comics/original stories aside from the fact that they are turtles, and are apparently going to be ninjas.

Lets make a GI Joe movie that has nothing to do with the source material, including taking away the fact the GI Joe is an uniquely American term.

Not having Will Smith =/= not having any connection to the original at all.

Emmerich told The New York Daily News they can't afford Smith's price tag because he's just too famous.

"Will Smith can not come back because he's too expensive, but he'd also be too much of a marquee name," said Emmerich. "It would be too much."

No word on who will be in the film, but Emmerich added that nearly half of the sequel's cast is from the original film.

So will Smith is too famous to be in the movie that made him a big time star?

Lol wut?

It's not like ID42 is going to be some kind of art house film where a big name would take away from anything.

If anything having Smith on board will only help pull people in.

Saying he is too expensive seems like a cop out by the studio as well.

There are basically three things people remember form that movie. The NYC/White House destruction scene, "WELCOME TO EARTH" following by Will punching an alien, and the "This is our Independence Day speech.

Do we really care about former President Bill Pullman?

Emmerich pisses me off. Many of his films look like they are on the edge of greatness but almost always fall short. Independence Day was Will Smith's break out role. He's one of the big reasons people went back to see it again and again. He stole the show. And you are going to remove the only A-lister from your cast?

Most of them are a lot closer to terrible than the edge of greatness.

Cause Emmerich has figured out his movies are stupid but effects driven so they don't need stars. Nobody saw crappy 2012 for Cusack, even 10,000 BC made decent money with a nobody cast.

The Patriot was his only great film IMO.

Bad Boys was actually Will Smith's break out role for film, but let's not pretend he wasn't widely popular before that.

I bet Will was pushing for Jaden to be in it and the producers said no so Will backed out too.
