There isn't one guy out there right now with legit sources. I don't know how many times people are going to post McNamara or other blowhard rumors only to realize not one has ever come true.

General question, kinda Iggy related, but in general, would y'all as an professional athlete, who has made a good amount of money to live a nice life, take a 3 yr $ 36m /yr to help rebuild a franchise, or 3 yr $28m/yr to try to win a championship?
I'm just curious. I would definitely take less for a legit chance to win, but it does seem that a lot of athletes will just chase the money.

Only way that possibly works is if both Iggy and Jennings come for about $20 million combined and you dump Lopez and maybe Vasquez.
i think that is theoretically possible, but both likely will get about $4M more starting (combined)
i could see jennings having to settle for a conley-level deal, honestly. i don't think the NBA really loves him that much

Iggy's at that stage in his career that contending is becoming important, but $8 million is a lot of money to pass up. It'd be different if we were talking the Bobcats, but I think Dell, Monty and Benson will be able to sell the Pelicans as a franchise on the rise. I don't think the Pelicans will outbid everyone like that, but if they did I'd say Iggy would become a Pelican.

the problem is that i doubt many teams close to a title have cap room to offer 3/28, regardless

Well I guess I'm just asking if you would take less money, say $8m or so over the length of the contract for a shot to win a championship? Take the Iggy scenario out of the equation.

i think anderson proved he can be a second option. If you have a healthy gordon and they draft burke/mccollum creator, that can work.
vasquez/mccollum/rivers
gordon/rivers/mccollum
iggy/miller
davis/anderson
lopez/smiht
starting lineup will have trouble spacing the floor, but a mccollum/gordon/iggy/anderson/davis lineup is intriguing.

Pelicans talk and money talk should be merged into one board.

I have to ask...do we really want Ig on this team?
We are still, in my mind, 2 years away from being really competitive. Do we want a guy that in 2-3 years getting paid that much that will be on the downside of his career?
Those are the kind of things you have to think about in roster construction. Will our core players be hitting their stride together? When will contracts expire? Will we pick it up again? etc
I know a lot of people here think we are going to win sooner rather than later, I just don't think that's the case, even adding Iggy.

I tend to agree on Iggy.
It all comes down to gordon. if they think he will be healthy and the player he has shown flashes of, they are much closer to being a player in the conference. It is the defining question for the pels over the next year.

That team may be a little better than what we had this past season . . .
As far as signing Iggy on the downside of his career, I understand the problem with that, but you know we don't necessarily have to keep him for a full 3. And even if we do, it's not like we'd be totally hamstrung.
Again, I'm not an Iggy fanboy, but given the realistic options available and assuming we do have to make some noise this coming season, he's not the worst possibility.

Define "down side of his career"
Guys like Paul pierce, Caron butler, Gerald Wallace, kirlienko, and Shawn Marion are all productive into their 30s and beyond
Iggy has no injury concerns and is in better shape than all of them guys. If he's here 3 or 4 years we could get the best years of his nba career

That certainly could be the case, but I would assert that Ig is WAY more dependent on his athleticism than most of those guys. A lot of them developed jump shots, post up games, etc.

e team doctor's and coaches have expressed that Gordon with his injury was actually scheduled to take about 2 years for recovery
Besides the FO sharing potential FA ideas with a rotation player, this is other part that makes me call BS on this guy. If the doctors AND coaches knew his recovery was a 2 year process, then why was Monty making his frustration publicly known about Gordon's recovery at the beginning of the season?
Posted on 6/11/13 at 11:35 am to mm2316
On top of that, if the team did discuss Gordon with another player they'd be a lot more likely to say "we think he'll be an all star when healthy" not "we think he'll average 25/5/5" Being that focused on the stats seems like something an avid trade machinist would do moreso than the FO divulging team secrets to an end of bench player that doesn't like Monty.

True, but he's similar to Kirelenko and Marion though. IMO

For me, its more about his price than his age. Hes smart enough defensively and off the ball that he can compensate as he ages.
If they believe in Gordon and think they can get Iggy for ~$10-12mil per, im on board. That team is in the playoffs this season and a contender going forward if Davis continues to improve they we think he will.
If they doubt Gordon, I dont think it makes that much sense to bring Iggy on board.

Speaking of PelicansReport, have you guys seen the ''New Uni's-Where they at?'' thread?
Some guy claims he talked to his season ticket rep and she said the uniforms were mainly blue and gold.

I 100% agree with this. If Gordon is healthy, which I assume the team believes he will be. We need to make the moves to be a playoff team this season. If that means going after a wing like Iggy or a big like Pek, Big Al or Bynum then so be it.
