we ought to grade these prognosticating prophets of doom at the end of the year. Someone with the time should put all the wags (wild arse guesses)down and at the end of the year and we'll grade them. We can then tell whom to listen to preseason. Anyone can take a guess without doing the homework. Here's mine. We should have beaten Bama last year, we have a better offense this year. LSU 11-1.

Actually a local radio show here did a survey, and Phil Steele's predictions were more accurate than most, especially compared to other sports rags like Lindy's and Athlon.

The one good thing is that we got his pages on LSU early ( LINK). I think Phil has taken one too many sips of the Bama Kool Aid. I fully expect LSU to compete for the MNC this year, hard schedule be damned.

They (ARE) assuming our defense will be down because we lost 7-8 ballers to the pros. Defense has been our strength the past 5 years.

Our offense has sucked and they (ARE NOT) assuming that Cam Cameron will have a significant impact.
I'm glad for the low rankings weather Miles looks at them or not he hears things. Hopefully he will allow the offense to be more wide open and unpredictable.

Ahh, the lets bash the magazine thread if they don't have LSU in the top 5.

I used to remember lots of people on here liking Phil, but that was when he was blowing us.

This is so true.

While Steele ranked LSU #11 in the preseason of 2003:

LINK

I very clearly remember that he said that LSU had the potential to run the table and listed LSU as his dark horse pick to win the BCS that year when few, if any, other major sources considered us to be THAT good.

After this, and his subsequent high rankings of LSU the following few years, much of our fanbase was ready to anoint Steele as the second coming of the Oracle at Delphi.

Of course, now that he has some doubts (not sure if it's based on our perceived strength or lack of strength at certain positions, tough schedule or both) he's a big dummy.

Of course we do.

And the SEC is more than happy to provide that hard schedule.

You don't replace that many positions on defense, especially considering how much experience they had leaving as underclassmen, and roll through this schedule.

We have twice the obstacles of any other team that would be considered a contender.

Florida, Georgia, A&M, and Alabama.

Bama won on a coin toss this year vs Georgia, didn't play Florida, lost to A&M, and needed last second heroics to beat us, and they were the best team last year.

Bama would not have even played in the championship game last year with our schedule this year.

The game at Tuscaloosa may actually be the least likely game we drop in the gauntlet, based on previous performance.

On another note could make us an excellent team to bet on this year if everyone else thinks we are not good

For the first time since I was very young, I will not buy a single College Football preview mag.

All will have LSU ranked lower than 10, which is ridiculous and will only serve to piss me off.

Games can't get here soon enough...

idk why you would be pissed about LSU not being in the top ten. Simply put they shouldn't be in the top ten and have way too many questions on both side of the ball to harbor any kind of creditability to be ranked high.

would you have said the same thing about preseason polls last year that might have had LSU ranked lower than 10?

Nothing surprises me. Les has not really demonstrated that he is "Elite" coach over the last couple of years. Hope now with OC things will get better!

I highly doubt there are 16 teams better than LSU.

ETA: LSU won't beat A&M or Alabama, but Alabama and A&M will lose to LSU.

what would you have said about a preseason poll last year that had LSU in the 12/13/14 ranking area?
