For 13 years, Zinn said, the state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries issued him permits to house the turtles. In 2012, however, the agency refused to issue him a special-purpose possession permit, citing overcrowding, lack of natural food sources and lack of natural vegetation and in-fighting within the colony.

I make no comment as to what I think about the State doing what it did, but how the hell did they know that the turtles had in-fighting going in within their colony?

Yeah, turtles are notorious for gang violence within their colonies.

AS soon as they started wearing blue and red bandanas and slinging that crack the owner should have taken action...

Maybe they did their job and actually spent time observing when they noticed the other inadequacies of his captivity area.

I'm not busting your balls personally, I'm just saying at least they did what they were supposed to. Like you, I'm not defending the guy or them, but kudos to them for being thorough, if that's what they did.

Dear LDWF,

Give the chemist his damn box turtle permit.

We have a 13 month-long deer season where people can kill whatever they want every day with a bazooka, and we are talking about gosh-damned box turtles. I'm gonna swerve and hit one tomorrow.

Wildlife and fisheries were making this poor dude pay all these years to be their box reserve. Pretty fricked up.
