Besides Japan/Korea, I'd think the games being played are similar.
Even in Japan, CoD sells a good ~500k on PS3. Big Western games have decent appeal in Japan (GTA, Crash Bandicoot, Skyrim and others have sold well).

I want to get both, but I don't know

I have seen nothing that has caused me pause on buying both. Unless the ps4 is $500+.
Having dual consoles has been very nice.

Which is Sony's largest gaming market isn't it?

ETA: Even though they don't realize 99% of Americans would rather live in Japan than here. Myself included.

No, that would be Europe. The U.S. is also a larger market for them.

Gotcha. I wasn't sure.
I still see his concern about it getting screwed on ports but that could be a valid concern on both sides.
I know CoD, Skyrim, and other games had issues on PS3 vs 360.
Not sure what games the opposite is true for.

For most multiplats, the 360 has an advantage in some textures, slightly higher framerate, I think. There are a handful of games where the PS3 has the upper hand.

Ports should be better on the PS this time around.

Japan's console market really diminished, they've largely moved onto handhelds. Only ~12% of PS3's total sales came from Japan. It's the second largest country behind US and ahead of the UK.

A report on Wired, though, indicates that games will be tied to user accounts. Should someone else try to use that disc, they would then be given the option to pay a fee to do so.
[Related: Xbox 360 games won't work with the Xbox One]
That's been corroborated by Kotaku, who was told that Xbox One games will require one-time activation codes. Games will be linked to your Xbox Live account. If you want to play that game using a friend's account on another Xbox One, however, you'll have to fork over the list price.
"The bits that are on that disc, you can give it to your friend and they can install it on an Xbox One," Microsoft VP Phil Harrison told Kotaku. "They would then have to purchase the right to play that game through Xbox Live."
It's a bummer of an answer, though Harrison hedged his bet by noting that the company was working on another solution that would somehow let gamers sell or trade titles online. Either way, this can't please GameStop, who rely on the re-selling of game discs themselves to make a profit on used sales.
