We are at the point where we shouldnt expect too much drop off from one season to the next.
Essentially ur 2 most important defensive ciaches are still here. Haley and Chavis.
Bama won back to back titles, and i believe the 11 tean was better than the 12 team.
So no its nit delusional. The delusion comes from fans thinkung we lose 4 games, then want the coach fired for losing 1.

IMO, the offense can only get better. I'm slightly worried about the offensive line and that is about it.
On defense we have all of the talent to be competitive against all of our opponents, but we will struggle to be dominant against the best teams.
I don't think a double digit win is out of the question. IMO the season will be a success if we beat two out Bama, Florida, UGA and TAM. I think we will win three...

I can't believe that after 4 years of top 20 D and the lasy 3 being top 10, people still doubt Chavis.
What we have been missing for the past 5 years is a passing game. One game/loss the past three years has kept us from BCS glory. If we show a balanced offense during that month of September, the sleeping giant will be awakened.
I mean we are right there. Cam Cameron, a goldmine crop of instate recruits from 2013 and 2014, and the usual great rushing and defensive play. The first four games will tell us the outlook of the next 5 years. Get ready folks.

This thread pretty much sums up the swings my mind is going through. From the good to the bad and then back to the good. There are so many factors at play - more than I ever remember before a season.
I do love the lack of love from the media though. It does feel a lot like 2011. Last year I thought we got too much love and the let down showed on the field.

So is the optimism warranted or are we being a bunch of homers by expecting a good season?
I think our D will be very good but I would be surprised if they look like an elite top 5 top D. If Coach Cameron can get Zach comfortable making 10-15 yard quick throws, with Odell and Landry in the slots where they belong, a healthy and good OL, I see no reason why our shot at ATL isn't as good as any one else. We lost by a score to UF and UA, beat A&M by a score. There isn't the separation that some perceive.

Uh. No.

Nope. With Chavis being confident, I'm confident. As per an advocate article from yesterday:
quote:
“I think the first 11 we put on the field will be as good as any in the country,” Chavis said. “The thing we’ve got to do is build that depth.” Depth also took a hit with the loss of players like senior defensive end Lavar Edwards, also drafted in the fifth round by the Tennessee Titans. But despite that, Chavis didn’t shy away from expectations born by having the nation’s eighth-ranked total defense last year. “I’m excited,” Chavis said. “We’ve recruited well enough to have expectations. Tradition doesn’t graduate. It’s still here.”

How I feel about the season will also depend on how we do against Bama. Hate them.

quote:NOT the secondary. They were "Burnt Toast" the final four games and their coach apparently stopped coaching after the Red Devil Two Minute Debacle as well. Cooper is missed there. They were all too busy after Little Nicky walked out of Tiger Stadium with a win. (As were the fans)
Although I think it's wrong to say the defense collapsed last year bc the defense played well against clemsons offense.
Any optimism I have about the "New and Improved" Can Cameron offense is tempered by the OL because I don't think they're that good at pass blocking. Having Stud back full-time should help, but I'm concerned about the personel there, especially at Center.
As for Defense, I don't care how talented the new people will be. There is no substitute for experience. Doesn't matter how athletically gifted you are, if you don't know your assignments and who to cover. I expect a drop off there. Expect the worse and hope for the best.
Oh BTW, will all you fart knockers please cease and desist with all the whining about the schedule. Wasted energy. Can't do anything about it. Deal with the hand you're given.
All the "Wine and Cheese" crowd and their "9-3 is acceptable" need to get the frick outta here with that BS as well. Raise your standards of excellence and don't accept mediocrity for the State University of Louisiana football program!

Your SEC schedule with Florida and Georgia might be too much for your young defense and newly installed offense to overcome.
Next year will be the test to see if your fans will still support Cameron even if you team loses four games next year.
But if you keep the faith, the sky is the limit for 2014 and 2015.

Maybe the defense wore down because of constant 3 and outs by the offense. The offense was completely inept.

I think people are forgetting that he have had major turnover on Defense before, lost tons of talent on defense before, and had very good defenses with less overall talent than this one.
Don't forget we had a championship caliber defense in 2009, 2010, 2011, and ill go ahead and say 2012.
The change in OC and the returning offensive talent is cause to be otimistic,
IN CHAVIS WE TRUST

If we had a offense that could score we could have won a championship with that defense.
We gave up 30 points once all year, and we won that game.
They gave up on average 20.25 points in our 4 losses.

I'd say yes. Especialy to those who think we're going to win the SEC and compete for an mnc.

Haven't we had enough good seasons to expect to be good every year? To many fans consider undefeated as the bench mark for "good". Expecting undefeated every year or NT is ridiculous.

Just look at the two deep.
And then tell me you still feel bad.
Sure we are losing guys, but damn we have some young talent.

Anything less than 2 losses this season is complete homerism. I think 3 losses would be more realistic.

2008 our D was supposed to be awesome.
2011 it was supposed to be too young.
So who really knows for sure.
One thing I've learned with LSU football is that sometimes it really is ADDITION BY SUBTRACTION.
Some years the chemistry and the will to win just isn't there.
As talented as we were last year, it seems like there may have been a chemistry issue.

How experienced were we in 2011? Our only sr cb was 4th on the depth chart.
Mingo and sam didnt play a lot before 11.
So i dont see where ur concerns are. This d is shaping up to be exactly as experienced as 11. Maybe even more so. Tm7, reid simon didnt start a full season before 2011. Bith jalens are mire exoerienced than those 3.
