But I'm not going to dub him the next CP3 like most people love to do.
I am not ready to call Burke the next CP3; however, I think his defensive question marks are a little exaggerated. Think about the play Burke made on Siva in the NCAA Championship when they called the foul. He caught one of the most athletic PG's in college basketball (said today on combine coverage) and pinned his dunk attempt above the rim. Like some have stated earlier, I believe defense is a learned skill that requires intensity and focus to perform at a high level. Burke was Michigan's primary offensive weapon. His attention had to be on that end.

No, I don't think there's a sure superstar in this draft worth that much.

Would you trade #5/6 + 2105/17/19 picks for #1? (the price paid to move from 3 to 1 in the CWebb Penny Hardaway trade). In theory those future picks should all be in the 20s.
Not with this draft class.
The Warriors paid that much for Webber because he was seen as a top-level prospect along the lines of Shaq, whom the Magic already had.
This class is looking closer to the 1998 class, which had Michael Olowakandi go 1st overall but had other good guys in the top 10 like Vince Carter, Antawn Jamison, Dirk, and Paul Pierce.

Who are you looking to draft at #1?
The guy that Demps really wants that will be off the board at 5/6, doesn't matter who. Trades at the top of the draft don't happen often, so lets assume you either roll the dice on a 2nd tier choice you can get at 5/6 or you can get your 1st tier choice if you move up to #1.

Siva also had a very good game against Burke that night.

That's a lot to give up given there is no wow factor at #1. Would be nice to get a guy Dell wants but I'm not sure there is a guy head and shoulders above the rest for Dell.

That's the problem with this draft. There is no 1st tier choice as opposed to a 2nd tier choice. The entire 1st round will be 1 1/2ish tier choices.

Did he? Did Burke guard him that entire game? I can't remember.

Trade 3# 1's for this years #1?

And whoever compares Burke to CP is just ridiculous.

No way. I think there are a lot of nice players to be had in this draft, but no one worth giving up that much for, especially with the amount of improvement the Pels need. It isn't like they are one player away from contending for the Finals.
IMO the best play is to pick up a solid player this year who will hopefully develop into a starter. I think there are about five or six players who will be solid, plus several more who may or may not develop well.

How in the world did you come to that conclusion? What makes you think the guy he covet won't be there at 5/6?

He may be using the same logic that the Nets used for that Crash Wallace trade, saying they only put top 3 protection on the pick because "there were only 3 players worth taking."
The Blazers turned that pick into Lillard, the ROY, though admittedly he wouldn't have filled a role for the Nets since they had Deron.

Yeah, Saric will be there at 5/6.

Don't remember anyone saying that about Burke...
So Paul's numbers are elite and Burke aren't, because...?
And there's a difference between comparing a prospect to a prospect, and comparing a prospect to an established elite player.
20 yr Burke vs. 28 yr old Paul is stupid.
20 yr old Burke vs. 20 yr old Paul is extremely similar in almost every measure from size to stats, to how they tested in these drills, and leadership qualities as well.

How in the world did you conclude that that was a conclusion? It was just a hypothetical I was throwing out there, obviously if the guy Demps really wants is there at 5/6 you don't even consider it. Basically this pick and the Rashard Lewis cap space are the best 2 assets available for finding another star player. Would a higher chance at a star player in this draft be worth cashing in future role players? The only player Orlando got from the future picks in the Webber trade that was worth anything was Mike Miller.

Exactly
Bogut, Marvin and Deron Williams were selected before Paul. The Williams' didn't even really put up numbers in college. No one knew CP3 would become the best PG of all time
Posted on 5/17/13 at 5:22 pm to GynoSandberg
Well in all fairness, if I remember the 2005 draft correctly, Bogut was the clear cut #1 guy and Atlanta didn't need a PG. we knew we were going to get Williams or Paul and we thought both would be good. We just didn't know how good. It's not like a ton of teams passed on him. But then again, a ton of teams aren't going to pass on Burke either.

We will see. He most likely won't be a Pelican anyway. Just my prediction.
