With all the recent filming in Louisiana you are bound to recognize something.

When you see distinct landmarks does it take you out of the movie some, or do you find it cool to recognize a building?

For example, in the Dukes of Hazard it always bothered me the way they edited them driving around the LSU campus.

Here is an interesting story of how they tried to disguise Metaire and Nola in "21 Jump Street."

quote:

The film was shot in and around the city of Metairie, Louisiana (suburb of New Orleans), although the filmmakers took elaborate steps to disguise the location as a generic city. They replaced distinctive street signs with signs using a Helvetica typeface, digitally removed billboards for local businesses (except the recognizable local RTA signs toward the end of the film as well as a Zatarain's billboard ad), and avoided filming locations with iconic New Orleans imagery. Despite this, signature landmarks such as the Crescent City Connection and distinctive French Quarter-area street are still partially visible.[12] The main school used as the stand-in for the fictional Sagan High School was Riverdale High School, located in Jefferson, Louisiana.

the mechanic

maybe it was supposed to be in NOLA but I don't remember them saying that. There were a ton of landmarks throughout the movie.

Hasn't Riverdale been used in a bunch of movies? It must be the most generic looking HS on the planet.

I mean, I guess technically Antebellum Mississippi is another location, but I mean they didn't really disguise anything

How about the scene in "Dukes of Hazard" when they were in Lee Circle while supposed to be in Atlanta, then were asking where the highway was as you could see a Carnival cruise ship and the Pontchartrain Expressway in the background.

And wasn't Battlefield Los Angeles filmed in Shreveport?

I feel like that movie must be harder to watch for someone from Atlanta.

I don't think they ever actually call it Atlanta, just going to the big city. It seems pretty obvious they are supposed to in Atlanta, but instead you get a random mash up of BR and NO.

Maybe out of scope of thread, but I take solace in the fact that The Bayou is immortalized in "Sex, Lies and Videotape".

I recognized 21 Jump Street when they started having that chase scene on the interstate up to the bridge, that was really cool.
And then at the end I recognized the night car chase scene

I re watched the movie on Friday, and had an aha moment. Seeing the thread on the Planet of the Apes movie got me thinking about it again.

In The Expendables I don't think they ever come out and say they are NO, but it is very obvious. At one point Stallone pulls out of his shop, and there is an LSU banner hanging in the street.

That beat up Mustang they had in the beginning was a friend's car. He lived off of Central (riverside of Jefferson), someone stopped by and offered to buy it for $3000 and he took it.
