Why would a 9 game SEC schedule be preferred?
If the SEC wants to split the big bucks from the new network deals, they have to play less cupcake OOC opponents--simple as that.
Nothing comes free. Put up more quality games and less phony baloney OOC cupcakes, or make less from the network deals.

2) why do they have to again? as someone mentioned earlier, it's not uncommon in the SEC to play more ranked opponents (esp highly ranked opponents) in your own division than other BCS teams play all season.
3) the networks sure do seem to really want to have access to SEC games, hence the weekly primetime slots
4) what was OSU's big time OOC game last year?

I say LSU, Florida, Bama, Georgia, and South Carolina don't play each other, and they limit to only 7 SEC games. That way the rest of the country gets to deal with the undefeated cluster of SEC teams at the top, including the 3 that don't play in the SECCG.

I think going to a 9 game schedule increases the likelihood for the SEC teams to knock each other off, thus decreasing the likelihood that there will be more than one SEC representative in the new 4 team playoffs...maybe even with a year of parity there won't be an SEC rep in the Playoffs.
The SEC dominance is hated outside of the South and there is much scheming going on to stop it from happening when possible.

What is he talking about with the Sugar Bowl? He writes like he is talking about an inside joke, but the readers aren't in on it.

In this particular case he makes some very VALID points. Fans should be sick and tired of 3 and sometimes 4, terrible mismatch games vs. OOC opponents. The 9 game SEC schedule is the only way to go !

We're being chickenshit not to go to 9 conference games with 14 teams in the conference especially now.
Just saying.

You replace a cupcake OOC with a conference game. Therefore 1 less OOC cupcake.

NO, back at you....as a season ticket holder I want to attend more competitive games and the 9 game SEC schedule FORCES all SEC teams to do so...still leaves THREE OOC games of which I'd expect LSU to schedule a decent BCS home/home series and a couple of rent a wins. What OTHER SEC teams do with OOC is beyond anyones' control...so, I don't care !

quote:wrong. you most likely replace that decent OOC road game (WVU, Washington) with that newly required SEC road game.

I'm for it as long as I'm not required to play UF every year in addition to another SEC team.

How do we know the extra conference game will come at the expense of a cupcake, and not the "good" OOC game that most all teams play?

I wouldn't say that, but if we ever got to 16 then I'll agree with you.

Other big conferences are now playing 9 game schedules or soon will be....it's better for college football and the ticket buying public....pretty simple really !
If an SEC team chooses to play 3 scub OCC games, they do so at their own peril...i.e. playoffs/expanded or not, are COMING and SOS WILL mean something !

This is a conundrum for me. I've advocated for a 9 game schedule in the past, but I don't ever want to agree with Pat Forde.
So I say, we do a nine game schedule, but in a different way than whatever he proposed.

Well..you don't really. That's up to each athletic dept. With a 9 game SEC schedule you're guaranteed a decent opponent. See the difference ?

Depends on your definition of decent. Are you suggesting SEC teams aren't already playing 9 decent teams?
Big OOC games won't completely go away, but scheduling them becomes more problematic when you start talking return trips to the other "big name" opponent when you now have the prospect of 5 road conference games every other year.

Add in UK take out TCU. LSU isn't going to play all FBS power conference schools, nor will any SEC school.
