Looking for good Starter bolt-action Rifle

I am about to buy my first rifle and was looking for something that was under $500. I have already been looking and the Mosin Nagan, Savage Axis, Savage 111, and the Remington 770. any suggestions?
Also I would prefer to have it chamber something like 30-06, 7.62x54r, or any other inexpensive round.

So you're telling me I got swindled?

Don't get a 770, its a turd.
The ruger american rifle at $299 can't be beat for the money.
Mossberg 100 atr is a solid gun too for around $300.

IIRC, they start at like $650 or something. Well worth it IMHO. Will me my next long gun

Savage 10fp in .308. Good gun for the price

You can't go wrong with any rifle out there these days, IMO. The scope makes the gun. Save any money you can on a beginner rifle and spend it on a high quality scope.
Report back on what you decide upon.

Every single bit of this.

Except the remington 770. It's a turd to the 6millionth degree.

Weatherby Vanguard is a great rifle for the money.

I am thinking about going with the Ruger American Rifle or the Mosin (If I can ever find one).

This is very true. But if your willing to spend $500, scrounge up another $200 and get a good rifle and be done with it. (Tika t3)

Ruger American rifle is the best deal going now.

Out of those two for a hunting rifle, ruger American by a light year.

No freaking doubt.
