What I am getting from this is that it should either be the Ruger or the Tika.

I'd go with the ruger, it is the PERFECT starter gun.

.308 or 30-06. You will not be disappointed.

I think the Tika is double the price. But is a great gun.

Remington model 700 SPS $379.00 at Walmart and academy all day. I live my Tikka and Sako but unless your looking used you won't be able to buy a tikka for around $500.00.

You might want to check out Bayou Shooter or LA Sportsman for used rifles. You may be able to find a deal on a gun and scope for around what you're willing to pay.

I'll buy one or 20 if you have another. That's a smoking deal I think they are $650 or more new.

This is one of the few times a little background info wasn't asked for. What is your intentions for said first bolt action rifle?

I bought a Marlin but it's basically a Savage. It's a 7mm-08 for my kids. It's a cheap gun but a tack driver. I think they are around the $300 price range.

Well again, if your looking to custom order your first rifle, then we may need a little more info. Are you a new deer hunter? Just target shooting? ect.

Mossberg 100 atr is a solid gun too for around $300.

This - have it in 7mm08 with a Nikon 3x9-50 on it and it is a deadly weapon.

Accurate, reliable, cheap and my oldest kid can handle it.
