Any band that you are a fan of that had a member/members go solo or start another band that you actually preferred more than their original band?
One of the first that comes to my mind is Audio Slave > Rage Against the Machine. I love Rage, but Morello teaming up with Cornell was good shite.
It can even just be one song that you liked better. Wutcha' got?

I like queens of the Stone Age more than kyuss.
To be fair, I haven't really given kyuss a fair shake, but the sound isn't as accessible.
Brain dead from finals, so I'm drawing a blank beyond that...

Bad Company > Free
Led Zeppelin > The New Yardbirds
Joan Jett > Runaways (NOT universal - but my opinion)
BTO is probably a push with The Guess Who, but I like more of BTO's songs.
(I agree with Audioslave over RATM.)
Velvet Revolver is better than new Guns and Roses, but not original/classic GnR - so I don't know how to rate that.

Not agreeing with all of these but is good for the debate:
Paul Simon - Simon & Garfunkel
George Michael - Wham
Bobby Brown - New Edition
2Pac - Digital Underground (if that qualifes, not sure he would be considered a band member)
Dr Dre - NWA
Paul Westerberg - The Replacements
