2013 LSU defense

what are you predicting this season? I'm not sure we'll take as big of a step back as most think. I think we'll be at least as good in the secondary as last season and the LBs will be better. On the DL I'm not sure how much different we will be than last season outside of depth. Mingo and Montgomery weren't as dominant in 2012 as some would like you to believe. Some of these young guys are going to have to step in and play right away

hopefully we got some solid play from Jordan Allen and Justin Maclin or a freshman steps up

It'll be fun
ETA: Anyone else excited to see Tashawn Bower

Minter?
We'll be aight. lose one solid player but all of those young guys will be that much better. Debo Jones and Kwon should have everyone excited. Add in Barrow and the others... they're gonna be good

one game containing a running QB. They didn't do a very good job all season of getting to the QB consistently through the year.

We will be ok.
Our offense will be better and the defense will not have to be on the field so much.

What freshmen are you expecting to see play this season? Bower, Bain, Gilmore, White, Beckwith, Herron, Granier, Jones, Riley..
ETA: What i'm trying to say is.. LSU STACKEDD

Out of the entire 2 deep(which I think will include incoming freshmen White, Herron and Beckwith)...mike backer is the only concern I have.

We are--unfortunately--gonna have to rely on some freshmen for DL depth. Lets hope a few are ready early.

yeah I'm just not sold on Welter. I thought for sure Barrow would make the switch with Kwon and Tahj or Debo on the other side

Our starting 11 will the top 3 in the nation. It's our depth that concerns me.

Am I the only one extremely excited for our DLine?
Hunter-Allen- Bower
Rasco-Maclin-Bain
Freak-LaCouture-Johnson-Gilmore
Ferguson- Herron

Better secondary play
Better pass rush from the DEs
Good LB play
With the offense being better not as much pressure is on the defense to be perfect so hopefully we see Chavis let the DEs loose a little bit more. DT spot is the area that worries me the most. We need Freak to play like we all expected him to and Ego to step up.

They are going to have to. This is not an option.

Except that Minter was the heart of that squad and we're trying to replace him with DJ Welter. Enough said.

Yeah well we also lost Edwards and nearly everyone else who played. We're thin at DE. That's a fact.

Debo and Kwon don't play middle linebacker, man. You talk like those guys can replace Minter but they can't. Those guys aren't even going to start, btw.

Tre White is going to remind a lot of people of Mo Claiborne, wait and see.

Allen is starting. Hunter is not. Maclin is injured and may not play in 2013. Bain is a DT, not a DE. Lacouture will play inside and out. Herron and Bower should contribute. Look for Beckwith as a pass rusher.
This is how the depth chart looks NOW:
DE Allen - Lacouture
DT Freak - Thomas
DT Ego - M. Johnson - Lacouture
DT Rasco - Hunter
Maclin - OUT

We have too much talent to drop off that much. I do think we will be a touch weaker in the secondary. Stronger at LB overall (losing minter hurts, but this is where the chief comes into play and we theoretically have a lot of talent). Will have a drop off on the D line but probably not as severe as some are predicting. We will still be way above average there. So looking at it that way, we could be just as strong as last year, probably a little worse. But, one thing to consider is this. If our offense can stay on the fricking field with Coach Cam's offense, our defense should be much much better then last year. We lost a few games last year because the D was completely exhausted by the end of the game.
