I tried adding sic but there was some server error. Then I had to hard close the game after it went unresponsive (could hear everything, but couldn't input anything). Trying to log back in.

Pretty sure the first month is free.
I logged in this morning at 5am and sat in que for 15 mins. They have the server limits set extremely low and most people who are getting in are staying logged in so they don't have to fight the 1017 monster.
ETA: At this rate they may make the first few months free to try and appease the angry masses. I still haven't been charged for the actual game yet...

It's a step in the right direction, but I think they also need to include the afk logout timer and increase the threshold on the que system they have in place. If things settle down in the upcoming weeks they could always remove those two measures. The worst time to have these issues are during a long holiday weekend right after launch. Hopefully the people stick it out and we're all clear next week.
On the other hand if they botch this up or fail to meet the timeline they have posted, it will get as much publicity as the sim city screw up. Some people have owned the game for days now and still have not been able to login, and even more have made it in and can't play with friends much less on the NA servers.
ETA: I did read all this is stemming from the popularity of the game and them just not having the server infrastructure to handle 200k simultaneous players....These are some pretty good numbers and it's obvious its a little more than anyone expected.

ya, it's pretty crazy
ETA: the que system was what everyone was asking for and screaming about.. it's very possible they put it back as the only option, last night I got a que for 400

If this is true it would eliminate 90% of the complaining and make almost everyone happy. Even if you're #1500 in line you won't have to sit there spamming a button never knowing if when you'll get in if ever. I can't usually play for the first 2 hours when I get home, but if I could login and eat up que time, I would actually be able to get something accomplished with my limited schedule after the kids go to bed.
I did find it odd I had a que so early this morning, and a small patch was applied last night. Maybe they made this change...

To respond to your earlier comment, the player you are sending a friend request to has to be online. Kind of dumb it can't be waiting for when they log in. I logged kind of early last night.
