This. If his agents were blowing smoke up his arse then I guess he had a reason to get rid of them.
Yep. They had him be the first QB attend the draft...NOT selected in the 1st round. He trusted his agents in selling him the dream he's going top 10.

I don't recall a single analyst speculate Geno would be the #1 overall pick.
He wasn't even the consensus best QB in the draft.
Dudes sense of reality is skewed.
Check PFT. There were discussions that the Chiefs were upset about signing Smith because they loved Geno after meeting him. Also the Jaguars at the #2 pick was getting serious talk about being the place for Geno back in March.

Is Jay-Z's group the leading candidate to get him now?

I don't blame him, fricking EJ Manuel went before him

I would think it had more to do with his agents ensuring him he will be a first rounder and that he should be at the draft

They had a documentary on this on ESPN a while back. One of the agents they followed had this happen to him, and IIRC (and someone can correct me I'f I'm wrong) the agents pretty much just lost a ton of money they invested in the athlete

ESPN did a 30 for 30 on agents. What I gathered from it is that the players are not financially liable to the agents at all. The agent fronts the money for training, marketing, etc, but the player isn't actually "under contract." Meaning they are free to change representation at any time with no penalty.
Thanks to both of you lol.
Ouch, that's brutal. You know he was fronted a ton of money, more than just suits.
I was an acquaintance/friend a friend type with one former LSU player and he was a late round draft pick, and I do believe he was fronted a brand new, nice Z71 truck, or some similar truck, it was 15 years ago.

If the player fancies himself a #1 pick, you aren't signing him unless you agree

Highest rated QB in the league getting passed by a bunch of teams and even EJ Mannuel(sp) went ahead of him? Yeah my agent would be fired too.

I guess that scouting report was spot on. He'll be a good fit with the jets

EJ Manuel did literally everything right in the draft process.
He had question marks, so he worked to improve them. Went to the Senior Bowl, etc.
If anything, the draft process showed his character, work ethic and willingness to be coached up.
Geno's entire approach was, "I'm the best QB, if you don't believe it that's your problem." No Senior Bowl, didn't work to prove his question marks were correctable etc.
To me, his falling status at the draft is entirely his own fault.

his agents took him in knowing who he was (presumably if they arent retarded). the first question they probably asked him was where do you think you are gonna get drafted. they arent stupid. they knew what they were getting into and didnt deliver.

The best part is that now Geno Smith seems like an immature person who can't handle rejection/failure. It's his own fault for believing his own hype during the lying season.

He was over rated. The QB from Arkansas was better

So, then, he's stupid?
I just don't think there's any way for this to look good for him.

Not to mention his dumarse agent advised him to show up for the first round making him look like a big dummy when he didn't get drafted. The agent obviously didn't have a clue.

Jesus, Smith is a massive crybaby.
Posted on 4/30/13 at 1:29 pm to OBUDan
It accurately reflects the scouting report. Can't handle adversity. He had to be dragged to radio city music hall on day 2 as well

As a Jets fan, I can honestly say that maybe he fired the agent because he got drafted by the worst front office in the history of front offices. It all begins with the owner.
Vernon Gholston....seriously?

PFT has also heard that the firing was motivated by not being taken 1st overall
