Inspector Harry Callahan (Clint Eastwood) wants to know if you've kept count of how many shots he's fired from his Smith & Wesson Model 29 -- six, or only five? In all the excitement, he's kind of lost track himself. You better ask yourself one question -- "Do I feel lucky?" Well, do you, punk?

I will be the first to admit that I know little about wheel guns but I have heard that the gun dirty Harry used was not actually a 44 mag. It was actually a 357 or 38. Probably because 38/357 blanks are cheaper or 44 mag blanks were not available.

I've heard that rumor. But it was a 44mag. Or at least IMFDB says it was a 44, if that is reliable.

all except .270, 7mm, 7mm-08, 30-06 and 45-70gov
find that shite anywhere. in 06's defense, it already was a fan favorite.

Yea I heard that rumor too, but at some point in the movie you can clearly ready .44 Remington magnum on the barrel of the gun

I'm with you on the .40 craze. Some outstanding marketing. People still believe they have something special with a .40. I believe the FBI was testing the newly developed 10mm and most of their agents couldn't handle it so they necked it down and told everybody they were getting .45 power with 9mm recoil... Ha!
Exactly the story I heard. FBI wanted a replacent for the .38 with more capacity than the .45 and more power than the 9mm but they couldnt hit shite with it so they chopped it down to the .40.
As for fast popularity it has to be the 300blk hands down its beat all the rounds that were supposed to replace .556, 6.8, 6.5 ect.

My vote for rifle caliber goes to whatever the first metallic cartridge available in an affordable rifle was.

Yea the .300blk has become very popular with the tactical community, but outside of that nobody knows what the hell it is.
EVERYBODY in America knows what a .44 mag is.

In this order:
.44 Magnum
9 MM
.40 Caliber
Edit: Rifle
.270
.44 Magnum
9 MM
.40 Caliber
Edit: Rifle
.270

Outside of hardcore gun guys, no one really knows about the 300blk.

To all, sorry for coming here with that rumor shite. The OB deserves better. Rumor being 44 mag not being a 44 mag.
Back to the 300BLK, remington makes a Model 7 bolt action chambered in 300 blackout and Handi Rifle makes a 300 Blackout model too. I believe TC either makes one or I saw a prototype not too long ago.
Whst other rifle round has gone to so many platforms so quickly? Definitely not 308 nor 17. The 17 is only available in a few brands and only bolt action.

It's definitely getting popular, especially amongst us "gun nuts".

I think .308 hit the bolt action, full auto, and semi auto markets pretty quickly after its development.
Eta: it was designed for feeding in belt fed full autos IIRC

I did not know this. I thought that it went bolt first then whichever second and third. I just had the impression that long gun shooters were using it long before it caught on.
However, everyone remember, the official 300BLK that is SAAMI approved is only 2 years old. 2 years!!!11!1

I have a T/C Encore in 17 and a bolt gun. They were making autoloaders as well as 10/22 conversions at one time not sure if they're still are as there was a safety concern or something they're also available in revolvers and lever guns as well as Tactical. But the 44mag gets my vote.
