and that is the point I have been talking about. we have to find a way to get Louisiana (and the Gulf South) interested in this team.

You are now just making stuff up.
Keep on with the attacks. It only shows that you nothing else to do. Nothing to contribute.

Your data shows that?
Interest is what is needed? I thought money. Funny, that.

Well we all realize that. Its something that our old management couldn't do. Hopefully Benson and his team can figure that out

your obsession with me is cute. I have to admit I am flattered. judging by your post history (which anyone can easily look up on here), you seem obsessed with certain posters and follow their every post. honestly I am flattered.

And you replying to me says something of you.
For me, you could analyze the data and see that I loke to discuss attendance and try to dispel myths and their propogation.

because to be quite honest with you .... its pretty F'N creepy the obsession that you have with me and a couple of other posters. just look at your post history. it was funny at first, but at this point I mean WTF.

you haven't discussed or presented anything factual. all you've done is try to discredit the information and links that I have presented and have replied to my every post.

That is false.
And you have yet to make a point, thread starter.

Wow another thread that despite what facts are brought out, 42 is never wrong.

Not all facts matter for every point.
That is the case with Weebie's grab bag of attendance numbers and figures that are not profit.

I actually want to give Weebie credit for actually posting facts in this thread. I wish you'd have done this in the game thread the other night

see this type of attitude is exactly what I am talking about. I just posted factual information backing up the attendance issues and you chose to again respond out of anger. why the foul language if you're not angry?
This issue has been discussed and dissected ad nauseum for years. I'm annoyed at the irrational obsession with the issue by some posters who constantly bitch but offer no insight as to a reason or a solution.

we're not talking about them selling out every game. we're talking about just putting up decent numbers and building a fan base
And precisely that thing was happening 2007-09 until the wheels came off and Shinn began to be exposed for the shitty owner that he was AND we lost one of our three core players AND sucked a tremendous length of pipe in the playoffs against Denver. The team virtually quit. If you don't think those things didn't kill momentum in a fragile market (I've always acknowledged that), then you're kidding yourself.

the BOTTOM LINE is the organization consistently loses millions of dollars.
Except when they had a truly successful and exciting product on the court as noted above and in your own OP.
And, as someone else mentioned, prior to the new CBA with very few exceptions, all NBA teams were operating at a loss. Further, gross operating income doesn't matter long term as much as gross and net profit (from all sources).

I don't have the books, but how much of his losses were strictly a result of the amount of debt that he carried. Remember, Shinn basically mortgaged the franchise. He wasn't running a cash-heavy operation. As such, he was often paying huge interest payments each month. This can greatly skew the financial picture.
We also know that he put everyone in his family on the payroll. So, he continued running up debt on the franchise to increase personal wealth for his family.
Bottom Line:
Holding up any financial data from the George Shinn era as an indicator of franchise performance is silly.

There is more to profit, like interest and taxes, which are EXCLUDED from the operating income calculation per force. Depending on the accounting, depreciation and amortization may have entered in.
This is beyond my knowledge (HT accounting gurus assemble) but I remember several reports during the lockout of teams claiming losses when there really were none. Tax purposes, I believe. Even the $300million number the NBA threw out was disputed by reputable sources.
That said, I do think Benson is taking a bath this season.
I also do know (I saw the numbers) that $1million per game stadium revenue was a very good number for this franchise around 2008.

i think part of the reason for no income was our dipshit owner.
Bingo.
The team itself was slightly profitable. It was the debt service on Shinn's various bills, like the relocation fee, which put the team in the red.
The sale of the team from Shinn to the league, then the league to Benson, retired the old debt related to the relocation fee and the loans taken out by Shinn to cover payroll the final few years he owned the team.

Would have made it to the game this weekend, but I had a med school interview in South Carolina.

Teams run into financial problems when fans don't support the team. Fans don't support the team when the team regularly doesn't put out a good product, usually due to incompetence in the FO. Attendance threads are stupid because arguing about attendance won't fix attendance. What is worth arguing about that will fix attendance is who should be the next pick/FA/Coach/GM

Hold the door, a higher attendance usually means higher income leading to possible more profits?

I keep seeing people talk about how the rebrand will help get a bigger crowd support and draw new fans in the NOLA area and also help with getting new fans in the Gulf South area.
But I just don't see how that will happen.
Why would this make people that didn't support the Hornets, all of a sudden want to support the Pelicans?
