Spinoff: What Can Be Done to Fix ESPN?

With the NHL trade deadline having just passed, the Final Four in full swing, baseball season getting underway and the NBA playoffs right around the corner...I figured it would be safe to tune in to ESPN radio this morning for some sports talk.
Boy was I wrong! Mike and Mike giggled like school girls for roughly 10 minutes about Greenie wearing a scarf, sipping a latte and how it got spread around the Twitter-verse. Then cut to commercial.
I cut it off and drove the rest of the way to campus in silence thinking, how has ESPN gotten this bad?
What does the MSB think can be done to fix the network...both TV and radio? Mass firing? Reworking the format of shows?

Stick to showing sports on ESPN 2 instead of "heated discussion panels".
There's no reason why there isn't an MLB game every day during the mid day on ESPN 2. They can pony up the cash to work it into their contract.

stop trying for the teenage demographic alone that looks more to entertainment than real sports. Report the sports and stop with silliness, playing music, booyahs and greeniesue bs.

Quit watching anything besides games.

Nothing. It gets ratings, it has the reputation, and it has the power and money to marginalize any competitor. The battle is lost.

ESPN is a money-printing machine, as are most monopolies.
Nothing will change unless people stop watching/listening.
If you want to go hypothetical in regards to ways ESPN can improve, maybe more shows with hot women would help - for example, Holly Sonders on Golf Channel is must see TV.

I agree with this. The only time I turn espn on is when a game is being televised.

Is there a Fox Sports station in your area. I listen to both. If I don't like what's going on on ESPN radio, I turn it to Fox Sports radio.

More highlights less argument segments

Regardless of the content, ESPN is making piles of cash for Disney. Business wise, they should stay the same. As a viewer, you have other resources for coverage. For live games, ESPN is not bad.

Stop watching. The market system will fix it.

I don't think they feel its broken. Record viewers and record ad sales from what I understand.
What would I change? More hot womens that talk less

Thank you. I have Dish, if I don't like what's on ESPN I can turn it to Fox Sports, NBC Sports, CBS Sports, NFL Network, MLB Network, NBA network, etc. If it's really bad I'll watch something on DVR.

Educate people in media literacy. Until then, people will continue to be used and abused by the mass media and nothing will change. Bread and circus. Bread and circus.

...and there you go.
I was watching SportsCenter the other night with Stuart Scott and the only thing I heard from him was his regular, childish catch phrases.
Then it hit me that the only audience they're really catering to is the lowest common denominator and kids. I know kids love that stuff.

ENTERTAINMENT and Sports Programming Network. Notice that entertainment is the first part of the name.
They have their highest viewership ever. Why would they change that?

Quit making a top ten list for every damn thing that pops in their head.

While I don't like Mike & Mike, I can't listen to a second of Fox Sports' radio programming with their blowhard announcers. They have such an over the top shtick it's hard to listen for even a few seconds. Otherwise, I find it's not that hard to avoid ESPN's daily shows, I just find ways of enriching my life in other areas. It's the same thing I did with MTV. I must be getting old...
