Skip Bertman was pretty adamant about not wanting his pitchers to do anything else.

And they all ended up at Tulane.

Didn't he go to tulane for the sole reason that Bertman didn't want to him to pitch and play a position?

Probably a big reason Michael Aubrey picked Tulane.

Much better than pretty decent, hit like .360 with close to 20 HR's his 1 season at Tulane. He's now and OF/1B in the Nationals organization. I bet he makes it to the big leagues this year, but possibly with a different team. Nationals have a nice roster as it is.

You're probably thinking of Michael Aubrey.

Yeah Owings was from G Tech. He and Bogusevic were both outstanding 2 way players on their 2005 CWS team.

Skip was definitely against it. Other than Osik playing all 9 positions as a promotional deal the only other guy I can think of off the top of my head was Will Hunt (maybe?), a left handed pitcher that would pinch hit every once in a while. This was early 90's iirc.

Antonini was mentioned. Did he still catch or did he become a full time reliever his last year?

Maybe doc Fenton knows the particulars but Ogea was tearing it up at the plate when he was pitching for the Indians at the World Series. I think he drove in Manny Ramirez??

the last player i remember being effective as a pitcher and positional player was Adrian Antonini. Chad Jones had very few at bats, or innings pitched really, in his career to say he was the last great two way player. He had one at bat that wasn't in early season OOC, a bleeding single in a blowout against Arkansas in the CWS. Antonini was a starting catcher for 3 years and then was our closing pitcher in 1994.

ETA: also, those who said skip was against 2 way players are right. he did not like guys playing both ways at the same time.

I wish Chad Jones could/would come back to LSU and play baseball again.
