I'm not looking through purple and gold glasses.
I just don't think we have someone on the bench that could
1. Play as good defense
2. Hit significantly better

Maybe try Foster at 2b during these two midweeks coming up, but I wouldn't expect giant improvements.

Yall are way too sensitive. This is one of the best teams in our history. There will however come a time when 400 hitters will cool a bit and suddenly .190 hitters are going to be a real problem. I understand they play outstanding defense and are capable of hitting a lot better but could it be time to see if anyone else can hit and play some defense? Sometimes a little bench time helps!

400 cools down but 190 doesn't heat up? Oh, and Jacoby is still walking, his OBP is still pretty damn good.

I agree with Rummel on all those points. PM knows best. Just wanted to discuss and see what people think about it and try to see if we simply don't have anyone on the bench that can contribute. If not so be it. Not many people get to start SEC baseball batting .190. We are a premier program so I guess I kind of find it hard to believe that we are maxxed out at the position but I PM knows his stuff.

These bats must really make a difference then! Katz is proving though that a player can still have some pop in these new bats.

So the .400 hitters in your world cool off..and the .190 hitters stay cold. Sucks to be you

My guess is our .400 hitters will likely cool off at some point. Rhymes faded towards the end of last year. This doesn't mean they won't be good hitters. They could hit .350 from here on out. My guess is some of those guys who are struggling now will pick up their average 50 to 100 points by the end of the year.

You should check the stats before making a statement like this.

Going into this weekend, out of the regular starters that have started at least 20 games, there were none.

But Ross and Jones were at .202 and .203. The lowest and second lowest in the SEC among regular starters.

Ross proceeded to go 0-10 this weekend while Jones went 1-12.

Both are now signficantly below .200

Between them they have the worst batting average for a regular starter in the SEC and the second worst average for a regular starter in the SEC.

It's a legit concern.

And it would be A1 on all of you assholes radar if it weren't for the fact that we have two of the top 15 weekend starters in the nation.

You jackasses do realize we have played ONE team that is worth a shite right?

Maybe we don't have anyone that is any better, but they can't be any worse.

Y'all need to back up, stop patting yourselves on the back, and realize this dude is making a legit point. I think there is a good point to be made that we have no one better, but his question has merit, and y'all piling on him is hubris at it's worst.

you do realize .230 at this point would be a 40 point upgrade right?

.225 - .230 is about the cutoff for SEC starters so far this season. You don't see any really far below it.

Except at LSU.

I am not saying that I know we have somebody who will do better, but Foster or Yocum deserve a shot. Jacoby is going down in significant flames right now. Foster's shitty average from last year that forced him to the bench is 30 points higher than Jones' currently.

Why do you bench one guy for not performing but not another?

Glad we have two midweek games this week; it's a convenient excuse to get some fresh faces in the lineup.

The batting average of Foster or Yocum may be higher than Jones'.
How much higher is the question.
I'm not against trying one of them during midweek games, but the defensive quality has to be there.
The question is how much defense do you sacrifice for marginal increase in plate production.

I hope I get proved wrong, but from what I saw of Yocum last year, his bat was barley better than Jones' is right now, and his glove was terrible.

You guys all make good points. I know it has got to be frustrating for both coach and player. Its just a mystery. You have freshman batting well over 300 and a highly touted upperclassman batting below 200 nearly 30 games into the season. Hard to fathom. He could still get hot I guess.
