and throw in a 750w psu so he can xfire later
I don't know if he will do crossfire or not. He is still working off of like a 5 year old PC now which is why he is using a laptop to play.

would there be an advantages to doing so with such a powerful single GPU or would it be bottlenecked?
Crossfire would be if you want to go 1440p and still play BF3 on ultra or something.
At 1080p that card will run everything you play. You could also just get one 7970 for a little more and it would last you for a very long time.

Basically for the future, you can always throw in a second card with no problems. Sometimes thats an easier/better upgrade path than getting a single card
Really only need 500w or 750w+

Nice. I am taking an IXISweat right now then I will be on.

Speaking of taking an IXISweat, he was asking about wireless network cards. I advised him to go that route over one of the USB ones, but I never spent much money on them so if someone has a better idea post it.

Single card it is then.

I was talking going xfire in the future when that single 7950 starts "struggling" with games.

I'm thinking I'll upgrade the PSU, get a single 7970, leave the rest as is and finish at around 1200

3DMark is a good one for full systems, heaven is a good video card one, and I cant remember the good CPU one right now. It'll come to me soon

Do you OC?
I did with my aging build to string out the life a little, but only to where I could get by with air circulation and not need much more cooling.

I would grab one of these coolers then. Both are top of the line with about same performance:
Phanteks Air Cooler
Corsair H100 CLC
