Intel comparing their top of the line chip to a 9950X for gaming... yeah they aren't confident at all about beating the AMD 7800x3d/9800x3d chips for gaming.

Yeah Intel is slower than 14th gen and can't beat the 7X3D series. Meanwhile the 9X3D leaks are showing 15-20% gaming bump over 7X3D. Slaughter.

This may not be surprising to any of you, but I was just browsing Newegg and noticed that the 7800X3D is around $130 more than I paid for mine about 7 months or so ago. Any guesses as to why that large of an increase?
I realize "supply and demand" but why would the demand for this chip be so high?

It's not a demand issue, it's a supply issue. They were available for like $330 just a month ago and have since shot up due to a significant reduction in production

The 9800x3d comes out in a few days. AMD stopped production on the 7800x3d like a month or so ago in preparation for the 9800x3d launch.

This was part of why I put off upgrading platforms. Historically, the biggest jump in board capability tends to be between the first and second generation. After that, boards get really iterative or start including features that no one really needs yet, like next gen PCIe when we haven’t saturated the previous gen yet.
But yeah, first gen buyers tend to get itchy as the platform matures

Looks like it's been officially confirmed that the 9800X3D is launching at $479 (blah) with a reported 8% gain over the 7800X3D (a bit meh, but fine) and 20% over the CU 9 285k (which, if true, is likely what is driving the price hike).
I don't love that AMD is starting to flex their position in their pricing, but it was inevitable. Assuming the independent reviews hold up, sounds like a solid chip, though you're certainly no longer getting an "AMD discount". I don't think it's an immediate buy for me, as my 5800x is still chugging along just fine, but that could change if I end up pulling the trigger on a GPU in a few months.

AMDs Ryzen 5000 series is their cpu version of a 1080ti.
Those chips could very well last and perform well for another 5-6 years.

I don’t have time this morning to dig into them, but reviews for the 9800x3D are very positive. Not as big of a cost per frame jump as you would like to see, due to the increase in price, but nonetheless better than the 7800x3D, unless you catch the latter deeply on sale. I’ll see about adding some of those breakpoints later. But regardless, it crushes Intel’s current options.
If you’re budget conscious, it’s obviously a more nuanced conversation, but if you’re not, and you’re looking to build the baddest gaming rig on the block, this is it (as always, at least for now)

Random guess, but maybe games that are more or less single core clock sensitive? I imagine games that utilize multiple cores better might see less improvement from a clock or IPC bump.

I'm lucky to live close to a Microcenter. 9800X3D is only $30 more ($450 vs $480).
There were 9800X3Ds selling on Ebay earlier for $750.
Speaking of which, the 7600X3D is looking really good right now at $300.
