Chase Daniels now gone with former most misspelled champ Robert Meechum. An Asomugha signing would be a Saints HOF misspell candidate. But who's gonna be the backup now?

Veteran route- The most obvious choice to me is Luke McCown. He stuck in camp last year and was in the last round of cuts. The dirty birds snapped him up the next day and he was Ryan's backup all year. UFA again.

What other vets ya think could be viable? There's a slew of'em available.

Rookie route- I've been wanting to see the Saints expend a pick maybe as high as 4th Rd for a QB with a higher ceiling than Daniel. Look how Daniel became esteemed after 3 seasons and 9 pass attempts! I last mocked Matt Scott in the 5th Rd from AZ. I've longed for Payton to develop a guy that could turn into trade value like a Schaub, Cassel, Kolb, etc.

Let's push as high as 3rd Rd for this conversation. That high you might come up with Bray, Glennon, Dysert, & Landry Jones as well. Would you like any of those? I had early hope for EJ Manuel but think he's zooming upwards on big boards.

Some dude that will quietly ride the bench and play for the minimum.

Jarrett Lee comes to mind.

I wish we had the luxury of spending a mid round pick on a QB, but we just don't this year. I would have like Bruce Gradkowski (butchered spelling), but Pittsburgh scooped him up. There seem to be a good bit of choices on the back up QB market (Cassell and Kolb both being cut. Probably would still be too exxpensive though), and I think we'll do the usual 7th rd-UDFA.

I think the Saints will go out and sign a vet at backup QB. I don't think this is the year to draft a QB.

Bray is my sleeper pick this year. I think he is high risk but real high reward. However, I think he could go in the 3rd or 4th and the saints really cant afford to use those picks on a backup QB

Serious question. With this defense, is there ANY affordable veteran who could win a game as the starter? I mean, if they can score 30, which is what they would have to score to win, then why are they still available?

A vet who is worth a damn will cost you in the $2 mil range, and that's something this team (should not) do, given our other needs and cap situation.

IMO, the season is fricked if #9 is out for a period of time, so might as well go the cheap and developmental route by drafting a QB mid to late round...or even undrafted, like we did with Chase in the first place.
