The "bad guy" is just a bit too inconsistent. He lets them alone till they leave and THEN tortures the blacksmith?

Yeah that bothered me.

ans yes they wore guyliner. Vikings painted their faces when raiding to look like wolves or demons and took pretty much cocaine so they would go berzerk

I forgot what the actual drug but it was some hallucinogen. They would take it and just let themselves loose just not giving a frick and killing everything. I imagine it was like a bunch of Norseman taking PCP and swinging around axes.

Good to see they avoided showing them in horned helmets which I think I've read the vikings did not wear.

Slaves didnt row viking boats that was men's work and slaves werent "human"

ETA:BTW Has it been discussed about Leif Ericson and Eric the Red being in Ragnars crew. Are they going to tie in finding Newfoundland/ the new world?

Interesting story arc.

Very few Vikings could afford any helmet at all... Most wore no armor at all

Thats one of my favorite things about Norse/Briton history is that they often fought naked and painted themselves because their clothes were so dirty if they got cut it was pretty much guaranteed that they would get infections.

Can you imagine naked vikings not giving a frick charging at fully armored soldiers. Thats a scary sight.

It was a mushroom commonly called fly agaric or fly amanita. The state that it would put them in was supposedly so bad that the ones that took it were called berserkers. It is where we get the term berserk from.

Well to be fair they very rarely fought armored opponents either. They specialized in raiding. Thei foes would've been taken by surprise and be ill prepared for a fight.'

Vikings tried their damndest to avoid pitched battles so the majority of their fights would've looked a lot like the massacre we just watched tonight.
