The #Hornets' Monty Williams had a chance to speak today for the first time since his team lost to the #Lakers on Wednesday.

Interesting responses. When asked if he would have done something differently, Williams said, "I’d do it differently in the third quarter (as well as the fourth), when it started to snowball. Any time you lose a game like that, hindsight is 15/20. You feel bad about everything you do. So, yes, I probably would do it differently.”

On using Anthony Davis on Dwight Howard: "I don’t care what anyone says, I’m not putting Anthony on Dwight Howard in that situation. In a pinch, I probably could have done it a couple of times, but hindsight is always a lot clearer."

More Monty: "Defensively, we had a number of breakdowns and that falls square on my shoulders. When you have that many breakdowns in one quarter, that’s something that I have to take a look in the mirror and make sure I have guys in the right spots, and make sure they’re doing the right things"

No matter how much bitching people want to do, he's right about not putting Davis on Howard.

Well that's kinda hard to say since we gave up a 20+ point lead with him on the bench.

If this whole season is about player.development like so many say, what would it hurt for Davis to be down there against Howard?

I think he was referring to his hurt shoulder.

Kobe was the one who killed us then, not Dwight

Partly by picking on Lopez in the P&R.

There are the strategies around wining or losing a game and there is doing what's best for your players.

The Hornets winning or losing that game and whether or not Anthony Davis should ever be guarding Dwight Howard are two different issues.

Radio(106.1FM) says AD's dad was on the phone during the game yelling about how AD wasn't getting in the game.

There's player development and there's throwing a 19 year old with a bad shoulder out there to guard a guy with 50 pounds on him.

We've all watched how they've brought him along all season. There's no way they were ever going to do that.

I doesn't mean that they shouldn't have found a way to get him in the game. But it was never going to be done by putting him on Howard.

I sucks HARD losing that game. But Monty's right in not selling out his franchise player to pull it off.

If the shoulder is a reason, then obviously its the right call.

If its just the weight difference, its stubborn. Davis on Howard for 3 or 4 minutes isnt going to ruin his development. Let your best player compete against the best and see what happens.

At least he takes some of the blame. Byron Scott would have blamed it all solely on his players and lack of effort.

Monty does not like to give injury as an excuse.

I thought it was the shoulder that was the issue.

I suppose we'll see when they play the Lakers next IF the shoulder is better by then. If he plays on Dwight, then it's not the weight since that will not have significantly changed by that time.

I'm sorry, but Davis not going in for Lopez was not the problem

Davis not going in for the defensively below average Ryan Anderson is the problem. Not to mention he's having a bit of shooting slump right now.

So I'm not sure why Davis, who was having a great game, doesn't go in for Anderson.

We know what would happen though. Howard would back Davis all the way under the basket for a dunk or force a double team that would lead to a Kobe, Meeks, Nash, or Earl Clark wide open 3 pointer.

But like I mentioned before, they've never put Davis in that position all season. They don't put him on opposing centers or really strong PFs. We can disagree with it, but they've been very consistent with.

Within the context of the plan they've gone with all season, Monty putting Davis on Howard down the stretch would have been a total panic move.

Definitely agree with this. Ryno wasn't playing poorly but if he's part of a lineup that can't score a single point in 6 minutes then it cannot hurt to sub him out.

Davis was healthy when they played the Lakers in Los Angeles, and he never guarded Howard.

Davis didn't play down the stretch of that game either, when the Hornets made that huge comeback. It was the same crunchtime lineup as a few nights ago, minus Rivers.

Ironically after that game it was Lakers fans who were complaining about Gasol not playing down the stretch and D'antoni said it was because he couldn't guard Ryan Anderson.

Then that is some pretty good data.

Thanks.

I'd give Monty a pass if it was only this game he chose to sit Davis in a winnable 4th quarter. But that has been his m.o. all season. So not putting him in to guard Howard with a hurt shoulder is legit, but the dozen other times is no excuse.
