While this is true, the cost to me will be minimal as I live in neither the City of Atlanta nor unincorporated Fulton County
It won't cost me anything since I live 3 states west, I still think it's wrong in general for taxpayers to subisdize billionaires and millionaires.

Georgia taxpayers are not subsidizing anything. The only money that the city of Atlanta is contributing is from a hotel/motel tax. Blank and the Falcons are paying 800 million plus the cost of any logistics are far as streets and things go.

Which is it? These 2 sentences contradict. If they Taxpayers aren't subsidizing anything, then there would be NO TAX contribution. Using a hotel/motel tax because only "out of towners" pay it is splitting hairs and not all together true. It's a way for politicians to claim a free lunch, we'll have those guys over there pay for it. It's BS and it's nothing but cronyism. A billionaire who built a business will not benefit at the expense of tax payers, whether the people in Fulton Co or Atlanta proper think they are paying for it or not.

That's better, than many, but if they can afford to kick in 800M they should be able to fund the whole thing.

Congrats on the new stadium.
For Brees to poop on.

I agree with the sentiment that tax payers shouldn't subsidize stadiums and whatnot.
My point was in response to the OTP person who thinks that his living outside of the perimeter prevents him from being taxed for this stadium.
Oh, and if you come to Atlanta for an LSU game and stay at a hotel, you're helping to fund the stadium.

Whole thing is ridiculous and excessively wasteful. Georgia Dome is fine (and yes, I've been there multiple times).
People need to get their facts straight though, Blank/Falcons are putting up most of the money, but IMO the fact that any of it is coming from taxes is ridiculous.

Awesome, an OTP/ITP bitch thread.
So did the Dome.

I agree, the GA dome opened just over 20 years ago. I'm curious when the Braves will start clamoring for a new stadium.

Arthur Blank needs to hire this guy to patrol the grounds

In order to finance construction of the $1.15 billion stadium, Arlington voters approved a $325 million bond in November 2004 that raises the city's sales tax by a half-cent, hotel occupancy tax by 2 percent and car rental tax by 5 percent. The NFL contributed $150 million towards the stadium with the Cowboys paying the remaining amount.

I'm not sure but when I went out there for the Michigan game this year all the locals made sure to bitch about it...
"we paid the taxes and can't afford a ticket" seemed to be the theme...

don't recall the 'Aints attendance being all that great before your lonely little Super Bowl season.
You do realize the Saints have sold out every season since 2006 and one of the largest waiting lists for tickers in the league.
Congrats on the new digs. I was at the SEC championship in 2011. For only being 20 something years old it was really unimpressive. Of course my only other road games were Jerry World and BDS and the BCSCG in Nola

The Dome is great but it is starting to show its age in terms of layout, and five years from now isn't the worst time to open a new facility. I wonder what the response to a new stadium would've been if Blank didn't push the GWCC to get rid of the old "Miami Vice" color scheme:

It was built for the Olympics. Luckily they made Turner field into a great baseball stadium from the Olympic stadium, but couldnt do shite to transform the Dome into a good football stadium.

Really the only problem with Turner field is the location. They are looking at plans to put in tons of bars and restaurants in right next to the stadium which would help a TON. Turner field has a classic design to it which I personally love.
