In my best Obi Wan voice:

"You must free yourself from the convention and order that Earth has taught you. Allow yourself to think as freely as a child and you will know this IS the good movie you seek!

Here's my review:

It came out when I was 14. I was entertained.

Therefore, Lucas did his job in my mind.

I can make you feel better about all of it...

Watch 15 to 20 minutes (if you can stand that much) of Send in the Clones. You'll be running back to Jedi crying into your hands.

Never really thought of this, but you're right.

And hell of a great post.

Aren't you the one who thinks Empire is the worst of the original trilogy, when it is widely regarded as the best? I'm pretty sure you're in the minority of that one.

I have to be truthful: when I first saw the trilogy as an 8-year old, I thought Star Wars to be the best movie of the three. I liked Empire and Jedi but found them to be inferior to the first film. And while I still feel the same way today, my feelings on Empire have gotten better as I've gotten older.

The one common theme with people who like Jedi is they never say WHY they think it's a good movie. Really, tell me more.

It takes away some of the mystique, but I'm not sure if that is more of a result of episodes 2 & 3

I think Jedi has a few flaws that I agreed with. But I also think that it's feel good lovey dovey ending has not aged well and doesn't feel right to someone who is viewing it from a 90's/2000's movie lens.

I think a lot of your criticism isn't bad directing/story telling, but more "why did they do it this way instead of that way?" stuff. Which could be done with every movie and as I already showed could be done with the first two.

Why didn't the Death Star just blow away Yavin and therefore the rebel base on Yavin 4?

It looked like the main planet was a gas giant or something and looked pretty big.

The Death Star probably couldn't do anything with that.

Agree to an extent, but the reason it hasn't aged well is we can view them concurrently, Jedi doesn't stand up very well when viewed right after empire. Ironically without empire it looks even worse. We like it because its star wars

Most of my criticisms center on the story and the characters because they both suck. I hate the tone, I hate the production value, I detest the entire story actually. I only offered a should've done twice, one you agreed with. I didn't even touch on the disjointed ending sequence because that's been harped on to no end, I barely even mentioned ewoks because that's what fanboys point out. I didn't mind jar jar even except that they went too far with him and they should've ditched him instantly. He never brought anything to the table.

I would say your first four questions plus the droid comment would fall into this category.

But what ev.

I am impressed by your ability to "get" Star Wars though. It is almost impossible for someone who was not young in that time frame and didn't grow up with all the excitment to truly appreciate the movies like those of us born in the 70's.

I thin Jedi was just too 80's to appreciate it from a more modern perspective. Temple of Doom had a lot of the same silliness you see in Jedi. Sure, I would have rather seen Wookies tearing apart Storm Troopers and more of the evil Vader that we saw in Cloud City, but I can't act like I knew of a better way to end the series.
