Can someone give me a quick understanding of how the TAF contributions and Football waiting lists work?

Questions:
1. Do you need to have accumulated a certain amount of points to put your name on the waiting list?

2. Generally what level of ranking do you need to have to get picked?

3. If you do get picked and don't like the tix, can you say no and try again the following year?

4. If you do get picked, does it zero out your points and you have to start over?

5. What's the general price ranges (including TAF fee, etc.) for the upper decks, endzones, etc.?

Thanks....

I've been dealing with this shite for 5 years and I still don't have a clue how it works.

I donate $100 to TAF every year and pay $10 to get on the waiting list.

I hear that's the best way to do it for the long run.

No idea.

They offered me a single seat season ticket deal two years ago, but I declined.

No. As long as you have any sort of points you can be on the list.

I've been giving for about 10 years both in terms of Tradition Fund (for 2 seats) and $100 for TAF. They really gear the whole system to "force" people to give the $100 as this generates the most bang for the buck, so to speak.

Given that, I usually get called and I'm offered 2 in the upper deck. A friend of mine with less than 1 point more than me got offered 2 in the South Endzone (right across the aisle from his other 2) two years ago. They called me later that same day and they only had singles in the SEZ and pairs in the West Uppers left.

Absolutely. They give you a call when you're "up". They tell you what's available and you have the option to take or reject them. You can then just get on the waiting list the following year.

The only "disqualification rule" that I know of is that you can't add any more than 8 tickets TOTAL to one account. Although I'm not certain, I believe they limit you to adding 2 tickets per year.

No. Your points last for 20 years on a rollover basis.

Endzones are $210 Tradition Fee donation (ticket prices vary by game/season but probably average about $60 each) per seat. This is typically the best you'll be offered as the TAF will scoop up the sideline tickets for bigger donations to the TAF.

The only exception are tickets in the first 5 rows of the sidelines. Those often come up as people will buy them one year and get rid of them the next because they SUCK and you can't see sh!t.

I'm sure someone has the donations levels for the upper decks, but generally I believe they run anywhere from $0 to $1,500 (not including suites and club seating). For "average" upper deck seats, they are generally $50-150.

Last year I was ranked in the upper 3000s (philanthropic points) and got offered up to 4 season tickets in the south endzone but none would be next to each other. I think my point total was around 24 points at the time.

eta: been donating about $100 since 2006 with a few of those years getting an extra bonus point for collegiate club membership

Technically, no.

I'd say you better be making a $5k contribution before having a chance. (If you have accumulated no points prior to)

Without a doubt.

Not a chance.

The chart above helps here.

The $5k donation racks up quite a bit of bonus points so that would help. I've been donating since 2003(never less than $100 and not less then $1k in the last three years). I can attest that it's vital to start the $100 and get the easy points early. Those points really start to add up ten years later.

There are two types of accounts once you start donating..

Philanthropic and Lifetime Priority points.

The philanthropic are used for new tickets, parking passes

The Priority points are for Bowl game and I believe away game tickets

Philanthropic points are accumulated for donations outside of seat requirement donations. They are applied to your lifetime priority ranking.

I have approx 54 Philanthropic pts and that puts me at a rank somewhere around 1100. There are approx. 11k philanthropic accounts

I have approx 59 priority pts which puts me around 2700 out of 14-15k lifetime priority pts.

To get new tickets for football you need to be in the 3k range of the philanthropic range. Even then you may not get seats worth a crap or even together.

ETA: If you call TAF, they will tell you where a certain donation will put you on the list.

No, and this is the biggest issue I have with the TAF. The same people get to buy the premium tickets to specialty events every year. When the tickets have resale value they buy every ticket they can and profit off of their past donations. When we end up in the Chik-fil-A Bowl they disappear.

Their ought to be a priority point cost assigned to every ticket sold. Annual big donors will re-fill their accounts, but the one-time big donation types will go to the back of the line if they do not replenish their points, and those who make annual gifts will move forward as their cumulative donations increase.

Is it easier to get a pair of tix as opposed to four?

Don't listen to the people that say you are wasting your time and/or you gotta be rich to get tickets. Not true.

I graduated in 2003, the "peak" of LSU football fever, and all I've done is give $100/year since then and I got a call in 2009, lower bowl endzone (I also got 2 pts for doing the collegiate club my junior and senior years at LSU).

Will it take a few years to climb the ladder? Sure, but if you'r patient and continue giving $100 every year you'll eventually get a call. 2014 there are going to be A LOT of calls with all the shuffling going around with the SEZ expansion.

Just be patient, give your yearly donation, and the call will eventually come. If you've ever got an extra $5000 disposable income, feel free to give that and it will certainly shoot you up the rankings, but that is not necessary to eventually secure season tickets. Will it help? Sure, but it's not necessary if you're patient. I recommend giving the $100 per year, moving up slowly, and in the meantime just buy your season tickets on the secondary market every year.

Don't listen to the fools that say you're wasting you're time. Anyone that says that obviously doesn't know WTF they are talking about. I have first-hand experience that your time will come, and my experience has come in a very "LSU-crazy era" as fan interest in LSU the last 10+ years is at historic highs.

And also don't forget that even if it takes a few years to move up (and it feels like you're "wasting" money), you're donating to a program you love anyway, so in that context it makes me feel good.
