Transfer rule hurt for sure, but they used to bring in top talent without the help of transferring. Gautreau, Jurries, Aubrey, Giarratano, Bogey, etc. No to mention they'd have guys like Kaplan and Manzella come in on no athletic scholarship and turn into great players.

That rule hurt bad but the administration hurts them even worse. We've had guys with 30 ACT's not even get considered for Academic money after the applications were hand delivered by coaches. The people in Gibson Hall tried to kill athletics a few years back, now they are doing an Obama and killing it from within.

Makes sense. There is no denying that it is tough for a private school, like Tulane, to compete with state schools since many state schools will give academic scholarships to players with B averages in high school. Considering there are only 13 scholarships to give, which needs to be split among 35 players, almost all of the players must pay most of their tuition. At a school like Tulane, that can be a steep price to pay.

The tuition at Tulane has doubled since 2000 as well.

I sure wont.

We really shouldnt need more than a couple of runs to win.
Who is on the mound for the wave?

Vanderbilt, Rice, Stanford all have programs that help make up for the cost of tuition and use them. Huge endowments help fund them. Tulane has programs but doesn't work with athletics to make it easier to get kids in.

My daughter has Vandy as her first choice for college and we attended some of their seminars. If you get accepted, they will make sure you can afford it. They have various programs but basically you pay what you can afford and they can find a way to makeup the rest.

Haven't heard who is pitching, I would expect several folks to get some innings.

Vanderbilt has had a good run under Corbin, but before that, they were pretty bad.

Stanford is consistently good. ND was also very good under Maineiri.

But these outliers do not change the fact that (1) state schools are cheaper than private schools, (2) many states have TOPS type programs and can get baseball players full rides without eating into the athletic scholarship allotment (and thus freeing up more scholarship room for great players; private schools tend not to give academic scholarships), and (3) there are only 13 scholarships to be spread among a 35 player roster.

RJ better find a larger sock or else he'll have to stand on his team's resume. But he'll never get fired, he's their only coach who has ever won anything beyond a flash in the pan season for 1-2 football coaches in the distant past.

You're going to compare P.Clark's resume with RJ's? He won some, in a very weak league. At least Jones, when he gets to the regionals, has to play above average Div. 1 teams. And he's done it over 19 yrs. But re the weenie's academic requirements: correct me if I am wrong, but I thought I heard yrs ago that most jocks are actually enrolled in University College, which has lot easier degree requirements? Not a flame, just curious.

Not comparing him to RJ, but Clark was a winner. And the Metro and old C-USA were not bad basketball conferences at all.

May have been true in the past, it's definitely not now. The UC which is now school of continuing studies will basically accept anyone, but Tulane athletes have to qualify for the actual Tulane standards, not the School of continuing studies. They also can only take so many classes at the SCS. Not sure how many.
