Looking for a wine rec, but I'm not a wine drinker

Basically, I'm giving up beer for lent, and want to tap into the wine department.
Never been much of a wine drinker. Also, I've often found that red wine gives me heartburn like a mofo (one of the only things that does). Anything inexpensive I can look for, maybe white wine or something? TIA
No boxes, please.

Try Hanna or Kim Crawford Savig Blanc

OP, Your best bet is to find a good local provider and ask their opinion. Not a grocery, has to be a quality store. They will usually be the most able to help you navigate their portfolio. Are you in NOLA?

If you want a decent Chardonnay the LaCrema is not a bad choice and it's about $22 a bottle. But if you spend that or I recommend that we are just "showing off."

La Crema also has a lower bottle price point which is good, then there is Wente and J. Lohr. My wife is a big Chardonnay fan, those are probably 3 of her top 5. That varietal tops out taste-wise quickly for $ spent.

Go to Martins on Perkins. Great, huge selection with knowledgeable workers. Go for the guys, though. The girls are just cashiers.

The 2009 La Crema Chardonnay is my favorite American white. Great choice. It's only $17.99 at Whole Foods.

I don't get people's obsession with La Crema. I've never really enjoyed any of their wines. And the idea that some restaurants are selling it for $50+ a bottle is laughable.

Try the 2009. HUGE difference from the 2010, which is what most stores sell.

just go buy some $6-7 bottles of white wine and find one you like. you won't need to spend more than this
just try some different ones out and stick with the one you like

I agree, it is a decent wine that is easy to drink. It has few if any interesting qualities. Some people get all butthurt when they read a recommendation to a different person, then assume it was for them.
p.s. I never said $20 was showing off. I was saying there is a difference between drinking good value wine and showing off. A novice drinker doesn't need to be spending $30 just to start trying wine. It was Valentine's Day, he may want to spend a little more, $50 or so. I don't know what expensive is to everyone here.
If you every see someone order La Crema at a restaurant for over $30, start making deals with this person.

Few years ago, I never drank wine. Now, I drink it when I'm cooking at the house. I only drink a Pinot Grigio though. And I keep it in the fridge. If you don't want to wait till it chills, add 1 ice cube in it.
Will never give up beer or whiskey for lent haha

I grew up just a couple miles from the Wente Winery (it was known as Wente Brothers then) in Livermore. They've gone upscale since I was a kid. Right across the road from them was the Concannon Winery. Wente Reislings and Concannon Petit Sirah were the table wines of my youth. I still buy them when I can.

not really
unless you are told the prices beforehand, obviously. then you'll like the ones you think are more expensive

Naked foot moscato
Cheap
Sweet
$60.00 worth will take you 40 days down the road until you can get back to beer.

Same here. I'm not much of a wine lover. Wish I was, but I'm not. I like Pinot Grigio, but it has to be ice cold and I usually add a number of ice cubes to it. Blastphemy, I know, but I like it that way.
A few I've enjoy are:
King's Estate
A to Z
Chateau St. Michelle ( I think that's the name..maybe it's Michael)
I've only had one I didn't like. I have no idea of the prices.

I've seen Bare Foot wine. Are you making a funny and calling it Naked Foot?
