A guy like Ellis is probably Gordon's ceiling
Totally disagree

What kind of defensive ability does he have?
Ellis? I haven't watched him that closely on defense, but those Warriors squads were pretty leaky.

I've been gone for 10 days and I guess I shouldn't be surprised to see this. It was inevitable for there to be EG trade speculation at the deadline.
I seriously doubt we trade him. The value just won't be there until next year, and that's only IF Gordon stays mostly healthy in the meantime and looks even better next year. Or after his clause that allows him to veto trades in the summer expires.
It just doesn't make sense to do it now, when you will almost certainly get way more value going in to next season.

I agree with this. The only way I can see moving him now is if some team gets overcome with stupid and offers something Knickian.

Yeah, even though EG frustrates me (injuries but also how he carries himself, lack of emotion during games, etc.) I don't see a reason to trade him. Roster talent will no doubt go down and we are in a great financial position with him so we don't gain much there. What 2 max players are going to come here with all that cap room?

Demps tried to get Ellis 3 years ago, so this might have some legs. If they are dealing with Milwaukee, I'd much rather take Ellis than Jennings. Ellis has flaws, but he is better at getting to the rim and creating shots there than Jennings.
I like Harris but I dont know if he is the type of athlete they want at the 3

Now, this is pure speculation on my part, but if Milwaukee offered up Ellis and a young talent like Tobias Harris for Gordon, which team would say no?
The Hornets. I can't imagine they'd even listen to offers from non playoff teams because if you ask Gordon for permission to be traded and he says no then you've just burned a bridge and are probably forced to trade a disgruntled Gordon this summer which would reduce his trade value.

Not on board with this move. Agree with Fun Bunch et al. This isn't a particularly good deal, why rush

At this point, the only thing that is almost certain is that Gordon will be hurt.
Either trade now where he has some value and let him become another team's problem
Or risk holding on to him and he never sees the floor and renders himself worthless.

Yeah, right now the Hornets just have minimal leverage. They'd have to want to just unload him.
After the season is over and after the 1 year anniversary of his signing, they can trade him anywhere. That coupled with a clean bill of health gets them MUCH more leverage. A team that misses out on a star in FA would be much more likely to try to make a splash with Gordon. We might be able to get somewhere close to what the Thunder got for Harden (although maybe not quite as much), given the right circumstances.

I just don't see how that move would move us forward unless they were also giving us a valuable pick. Harris is a borderline scrub. Ellis would be a serious downgrade, in my opinion. Our offense needs shooters to space the floor for Vasquez. Ellis is not that.

Maybe, but its worth taking the risk and holding on to him, so you make it past the time when you can trade him anywhere. To me, its worth it to be able to open up your options.

Monta Ellis seems like a really selfish player

If Monta Ellis is the best we can do, we should keep Gordon.
This.
Ellis is a volume shooter who is very turnover prone and can't hit a 3.
Not exactly what I'd want to replace Gordon, especially since we could be left holding our dicks in our hands if he declines his PO and walks.
Harris has potential, but not enough to offset a flip of Gordon for Ellis.
I'd rather take my chances on offers after the season when we don't have to play "Mother May I" with Gordon about his destination.

This is the leap that I can't take. My crystal ball got dropped by some Alabama player.

You seem to be assuming the absolute worst in all things Gordon here.

OKC got a haul for Harden but I know what you're saying and I agree.

I don't think we would be really doing it for Monta anyway...I think we would be doing it in the hopes that he opts out, just to get out from under Gordon's contract.
And then we have a ton of money to spend on...um...
