Troubling Stat

1.5. Yards per snap allowed in coverage by Danny McCray, the most of all safeties on the field for 50 percent of their teams' snaps, per Pro Football Focus.

How do you calculate yards in coverage?

We all know what the problem is with the Dallas Cowboys- and it's not Danny McCray.

Kind of a whack stat IMO. If a player is on the field exactly 50% of the time and you compare him to a player on the field 100% of the time then its not going to be a good summary of the real performance to me. Just my opinion.

In other words, the 50% guy could have had 0 yards/ snap the rest of his time if he played 100%. This stat just assumes that if you play 50% of the time, you are automatically going to play the exact same way if you played every snap. There is truth to it, but there are definitely too many variables in there to consider this measurement objective.

Such as maybe Danny McCray is put in on far more passing situations as a player playing 50% of the time, or maybe one DB plays in a division where they throw the ball less like the NFC West with Zona, Stl, Sea and SF.

Stats are for losers. The only stat that matters is the W.

Danny McCray is the damn 3rd string safety. He rocks special teams, but really shouldn't have seen much PT on defense, but Cowboys were rattled with injury at the LB and Safety positions.

He blows coverage pretty often, but dude is a monster on special teams and I am happy as a clam to have him on the Cowboys.

I really enjoyed #44. He was a quality player and a quality young man who brought a want to make plays and deliver hard hits.

Glad to see him get a chance. I hate seeing him get caught up in the Dallas Cowboys search for a scapegoat.

Where are you seeing the cowboys use him as a scapegoat?

Don't let your hatred get in the way of facts. Dallas appreciates McCray.

3 x 1.5 = 4.5.. So.. 4th and 5 to 6?

Does that mean if they threw at McCray every play, he would force a 3-out?

This was also in Sports Illustrated. They did a segment and a lot of LSU players were in there negatively. Early Doucet had the most drops out of any receiver with 50+ targets. Peterman had more sacks allowed then anyone. Don't remember the Corey Webster stat, but he was the worst in the league in something. I want to say another LSU player was the worst in the league in something too, but can't remember who it was. It wasn't the most flattering article for former LSU players.
