As one that has read the first four books, I can say that the show is good, but it's no where naer as good as the books.

What movie/tv adaptation of a popular book/series is as good?

And one who has read all 5 books multiple times, I can say you don't have a clue what the frick you're talking about. A Feast for Crows is a great piece of writing.

It was a little slow, but only because of all the non-main chars that were introduced. I appreciated it more once I read book 5

As someone else said. AFFC requires a reread to fully enjoy the subtleties of which. Most of the "booms" in that book are mentioned in ways that are hard, if not impossible, to catch the first time through

Exactly, it is my second favorite.

Irrelevant.

A great piece of writing for those who don't read critically maybe. It's rubbish. A slow-moving, pointless novel.

Maybe when I get to book 5, I'll consider it a wonderful addition to the series, but it doesn't stand on its own. If it did, you wouldn't have to wait on the next novel to "get it."

It isn't meant to stand alone.... It never was.

It is one half a much larger book. AFFC and ADWD is the same book split by geographical location and it is a great piece of writing.

What an incredibly narrow-minded thing to say

It's an epic fantasy somewhat akin to a hard core Lord of the Rings. The first 3 books it is based on are well written with very interesting plots and characters. The TV show is consistent with the books for the most part with an excellent cast and actually improves on the books in some cases. The problem of course as with most TV series is that they don't have the budget to make the show as epic as depicted in the books.

To understand the implications of AFFC, you have to read ADWD. In fact, AFFC will probably even better if the foreshadowed events occur in the next two books.
