Is Vasquez our PG for years to come?

He is definitely one of the most improved players in the league this year and is on the rise. Do yall see him continuing to get better or he is nearing his "peak"?
I think we should sell, sell, sell! Get what we can for him while he's hot because I dont see him lasting forever with this play....
Happy we are getting this out of him right now. He has definitely taken advantage of this opportunity.

Most people will agree with you.
But I would like him on this team. PG is not a position that you NEED your best player to play. He is a great complement to the other players we have.

The problem with "selling high" on him is getting a replacement who is as affordable and/or as good a compliment to our other players.
Vasquez is a good distributor and knows where he can take good shots from. He is also only going to cost $2m next year and get a QO of at least $3m in two seasons.
We've got a better shot with him than we do with some of the misfit toys that will be available at our price range.

I'm on board the Gravy Train

What signs is he showing of slowing down? He's been our most consistent player on a great contract
Why do most hornet fans want to trade any body who is doing better than expected for another unknown?

"Residual trauma from the days where any good Hornets player would force their way out of town" is my guess.

Is Greivis the best PG in the league? no
Will he ever be? no
But he is 26 in his first year as a full starter and playing really well
And right now we have NO ONE behind him...
Rivers no thank you right now
Roberts don't get me started I don't want him back
I like Greivis on the hornets he brings fire, leadership, he is vocal, and you need a vocal guy coupled with the silence of Gordon
I think we need to focus on SF and maybe a C of the future

Draft CJ McCollum and sell high on Gravy.

I like GV and his contract is very friendly but ultimately I think you have to trade him. Two of his biggest weakness, speed and athleticism, he can't really improve on.
I'm just saying when it is time for his contract extension, I don't want the Hornets to be the ones to pay him.

agree...I'm not saying I'm not on the Gravy Train..but I just see him as being a great PG to come off the bench. I never saw him as a starting PG. If he continues to facilitate like he is doing then I'm fine with that, just dont want him thinking he is a 20 pt 10 assists guy. Hes more of a 10/10 guy which is great....but the league is becoming a PG driven league...it will be interesting to see how it turns out

At this point, you don't know how much he commands. Will he give the team a discount? I think there's a good chance unless he grows a big head which I doubt happens.

He may get paid but I don't think we can get a workable replacement for cheaper outside of using a draft pick on one or having Rivers miraculously develop.
Lots of points out there who are either starters or on their second contracts are making around $8m+. If we bring in a Devin Harris or other such castoff, they'll get paid as much or more than Vasquez but may not mesh nearly as well with our other key pieces like Gordon and Davis.

not sure what the rookie deal rules are, but if they dont plan on dealing him this offseason, they should offer him an extension in the $4-5mil/year range. he probably takes it. it is still good value for what he does, leaves space for other moves, and makes his contract more moveable in the future.

Parker early in his career, Fisher, Kidd, and Williams late in his Career was not thought to have defensive presence during their title run.
What do they all have in common? HOFers type of talent. That's the focus if you want to talk about Championships.

Lopez and Vasquez are the most likely trade chips from where I sit, and thisI team needs to improve. I think that small set makes it more likely that he goes than stays.
Dell may not move him before the deadline, but Dell likes to work in the trade framework, it seems likely to happen before his deal expires in 1.5 seasons.

One of Lopez/Smith is getting moved. They need a defense/rebounding big besides Davis in the rotation.
If Dell moves Vasquez for Jennings and gives BJ an 8 figure deal, I will develop a serious drinking problem.

Exactly! All you really need is one of the best player(s) of our generation on your team.

Basically, we don't need a stud PG. We need LBJ, Kobe, Shaq, Kevin Garnett or Tim Duncan. Only 5 of the best player to EVER play the game

Not to mention that Rondo, Kidd, Billups, and Parker will all likely be in the Hall of Fame

You don't need another all time great. You need the core of Gordon, Davis and Anderson to live up to the hype and then you need a good but not great SF. Someone who is a versatile defender that would allow Vasquez to guard the worst perimeter player, and someone who's a good enough shooter/scorer to keep the defense honest and create spacing. Demps has enough time to see what his SF prospects are and still move Vasquez before next season if the draft or FA don't work out.
