This.
I don't get out into the woods often, but I'm just chicken shite to be out there without a handgun.
I have been of the mind that the La. open carry laws apply to this. Is that correct?

Used to carry my 1911 but ill probably start carrying a .357. Mine has a long enough barrel that I think it could kill a deer from a good distance away

I carried a Glock 20 every time I went out in the woods. Bring it when I in the woods around hogs hunting. I also have the faint hope that a deer will walk close enough for me to get a pistol shot off

Present
I have a confirmed kill with one of my 1911s

Normally I carry a Ruger Mark II for popping squirrels and coons and if I need to finish something off. But I have actually killed a deer with a S&W Mod 10 2" 38 special on a bet. Shot it behind the ear with a +p at about seven yards.

My whole thing is I'm definitely not putting down a .30-30 or 12 gauge or whatever I got to grab a damn pistol.

I carry one just because I like pistols.
I'll have it for whatever need arises.

I like em for fun shooting, but I definitely don't want to ever have to rely on one. I might actually hit what I'm shooting at with a real gun.

Yeah me neither. I'd rather my chances with the aught 6 or 12 ga with slugs/buckshot.

I was walking to the stand this year at 4lsu2's place and ran across a pack of 5 dogs right at daylight on the way to the stand.
In my hands, I only had a crack barrel 45-70. I was glad to have my trusty G19 on my hip.
They were dumb dogs and never knew I was there but if they had seen me who knows what would have happened.

Collared or uncollared?

You never know when you might need it. If you lean your primary against a tree while taking a dump you might need the pistol to defend yourself from a shiteater!

Too dark to tell.
I can assure you, had they raised their voices in my direction it would not have mattered.

I usually carry a SAA 45 LC IN 4 3/4 just for snakes and stuff that need shot. Noneed for hearing protection as they are not that loud.

A lot of people use bolt-actions. That's not going to be a lot of help if you have something coming at you.

So you bow hunt when it isn't bow season?
EDIT: I think I get what you're saying. The use of a period would probably have cleared up the confusion.
I bow hunt 90% of the time even during rifle season. When its rifle season I carry my 9mm when I'm bowhunting. My rifles are semi-auto rifles so I have 4-5 shots w/o the bolt so I like my chances. I mainly rifle hunt when I take my kids. Any other time I have gotten to where I just prefer the bow, a treestand and my 9mm.

I don't carry when I'm deer(rifle) hunting. My 9mm can't do anything my 30-06 can't do. But I will if I'm squirrel/rabbit hunting. Just in case a hog gets brave.

I'd be better off with the bolt action.
I like shooting pistols for fun, but I don't want to HAVE to use one. I'll be the first to admit that I'm not very good with them.
