Girls on HBO (I don't get the hype?)

First of all I'm a broad so after hearing everybody rave about this show and Lena Dunham I spent this weekend watching season 1 on demand. I truly do not understand the hype. Lena's character is annoying and frumpy, and Shoshanna- who cracks me up- does not get enough screen time.

Sure there were a few funny moments but I don't see how this show is anything special or innovative. I think it would be more like able with less of Lena's character Hannah and more of the other 3 girls who are all way more interesting. Am I missing something?

i watched 4 episodes...i wanted so badly to like it, but I just don't get it. not sure how old you are, though. it's aimed basically at big city 20somethings...and men over 50 who don't get the internet and want to (for whatever reason) see Lena's tits.

i wish it was better because the idea is great. but i just can't like it. maybe it's the characters.

I fricking loathe the show. My wife likes it. None of the characters are likable. The main fat girl is disgusting and for some reason has to write herself naked in every goddamn episode. We get it. You want the audience to feel uncomfortable about how comfortable you are with your body. We are not uncomfortable. We are disgusted, you fat frick.

Sans Allison Williams why are they so ugly?

its the usual sex-driven, gay/lesbian agenda, females sleeping around type of bullshite that most critics love. I've seen a few episodes and I'm not a fan.

(btw I'm pro-gay marriage so I'm not judging it based on that in anyway, but the fact is that is one of the main agenda's being pushed to the American public nowadays on television and the critics/media love it)

Fwiw, she has gotten a little more stuff to do in season 2.

I think the last episode might have been the best of both seasons so far and Shoshanna was a major part of it.

it's a celebration of people with a certain set of values, so those people love it

do you dream of moving to NYC and living amongst a bunch of poor people who refuse to get a real job when they prove they're not able to succeed in their dream...and act like their collective failures in life constitute some sort of culture?

if not, you probably wouldn't like girls

I like it. The first season was funny. This season, not as funny. Some have been good, like the coke episode.

it's terribly un-funny, and premise is 100% unbelievable: no living, breathing male would ever knowingly, willingly have sex with that fat, ugly bitch

......and worst tattoo ever, looks like something a 5 year old would scribble on the back of a kid's menu

I like the show. I think its pretty innovative in how it tells a coming of age type story. The show depicts these four 20 something year old privelaged white girls for what they are in reality: while sweet, funny, and at times intelligent....blissfully ignorant adolescents who really don't know shite about making it on their own in the real world. In their struggle to grow up, they make a few mistakes and I think it makes for a pretty refreshing show.

The most recent episode had a pretty epic argument between Jessa and her husband. Everything the guy said was so funny because it was true. "...And you're a whore with no work ethic."

The show would be tolerable if Lena Dunham was even remotely attractive

Haven't read any of this thread past the OP but this show is damn good. Well-written, acted and the humor is witty, awkward and downright entertaining.

Unless you're over 40. If so GFY.

I watched the pilot and didn't get it. Then, I saw it win the Golden Globe and thought maybe I didn't give it a fair chance.

I see here that I was right. If it continues the way it started, which everybody seems to agree on, like it or not, I'm done with it. Glad I didn't waste any more time with the show.

Once again, the Movie/TV Board comes through.

I love it.

I think it's hysterical.

And I don't think you are supposed to like or root for Hannah. It's a lot like Louis CK on Louie.

I feel like every discussion on here about Girls has been that is nothing to brag about and at the very most, is watchable.

Let me guess, 10 pages of how gross Lena Dunham looks without clothes. It's a valid criticism

If the New York Times got to create a human being from scratch, it would be Lena Dunham.

Intelligence not put to use, privileged upbringing combined with unbridled liberalism, faux complexity allowing critics to justify their worthless, unproductive existence...
