Big 12 wants waiver to host title game

quote:
STILLWATER, Okla. -- Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby says the league likely will seek permission from the NCAA to hold a championship game even though it doesn't have the 12 members required under the current rules.
"I think it's reasonable to say if you're going to have a champion that you're going to have to designate it in one fashion or another. But to say it has to be between 12 schools or that there has to be divisional play or there has to be a round-robin, we're deregulating lots of things and that certainly is a candidate."

In reality, UT wants a waiver.

Are they planning to have divisions again, or would the championship feature the top 2 finishers?
And what about tiebreakers? If they end up with another 3-way tie for first (like they did with Texas, OU, and Tech a few years back) who gets hosed?

let them have it... 12's an arbitrary number for such a rule
A. if the conference title is Texas vs. Kansas St. and they played the regular season game in Manhattan, the CCG would be in Austin.
B. if the team that lost the regular season meeting wins the CCG, whatever team is higher in the rankings would go to the BCS/playoff

While I don't necessarily agree with it either, there has been a lot of stupid in this thread.
CFB is all about money and this is yet another thing that supports that.

I don't see why they shouldn't have a CCG if they want one. Do I think it's retarded? Yes, but it should be up to them.

This is 100% only about money. The Big12 won't expand because their TV partners have told them they would not be able to get equivalent value for their teams to keep their current per team value from decreasing.
Since they can't do that, in order to keep up with other conferences, they want to add other revenue streams:
1.) Champions Bowl
2.) Affiliate Scheduling
3.) Conference Championship Game
I think as has been stated previously, they should not be allowed to schedule games on championship weekend. That being said, championship weekend games will not be disallowed as the ability to schedule games on that weekend factored into their TV contracts.
